2gb of *non-upgradable* memory kills the deal. Might be worth it if it had 4gb

Seems like all Macbooks are $100 cheaper now. I bought 1 Macbook PRO and 1 MacAIR less than 20 days back. Got $200 refunded from customer service on phone right now!! thanks OP.

BTW, this is a good deal.

This should have a free upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion when it comes out...

That'll be for the new model coming out soon, not the old one.

But from a work stand point, what can be done in 64Gb of memory? I keep thinking about that before pulling the trigger. Love my MBP from last year though

I'm using one right now. It is a nice, light little machine. With huge jump and cloud drives, 64 GB really can be plenty.

I have the base core 2 duo model. 2gb ram works with several MS office instances up. It can get choppy if you have multiple hulu/youtube videos playing at once. Here's something, you shouldnt have 4gb of ram and only 64 gb of ssd. The OS stores everything in RAM on the hd so it can resume during start up.

Do you attribute that to the Mac OS? Curious... Some people have told that Apple is much better at memory management than Windows.

This was just discontinued on Monday. The new model is $999 but comes w/ Ivy Bridge proc, 4GB RAM, USB 3, and slightly better Intel graphics. Remember you can't upgrade RAM on these. If you are trying to future proof you might want to hold off until the new model hits the refurb shelf @ the Apple Store in a couple of months. Mountain Lion min req is 2GB, which is exactly what the discontinued model comes with so that should tell you something about it will run in the future. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish.

That is absolutely not true. OSX has always had not very good memory management. Some say it's even getting worse. Windows on the other hand has always been getting better and currently has good management. You either need a ton ram or an ssd with osx

I got this PM earlier this evening and I am doing a post for response as maybe others can also benefit. "I bought a Macbook Air in an Apple Retail store 2 weeks ago, but that store refused to give me any refund when a new model came out last Monday. I'm just wondering whether you buy your macbook online or in an Apple retail store. And if possible, could you share with me what phone number you called to get a refund. "
Amby : This thread is specific about the Macbook (and Macair) prices at the BESTBUY store and not in the Apple's own retail outlets. That said, if someone has bought within past 30 days and is not much hassle, then I will suggest returning to Apple Store (or whatever retailer you brought from) and buying from BB. Firsat try to get a price adjustments. Some credit cards also offer price protection. I know my Visa and MasterCard does.

Apple Store absolutely price matches themselves within a certain number of days (15? 30?) so try that before return and rebuy!

Wow, I didn't realize that the new one has 4gb ram as well. Best to wait for that one to show up at the apple refurb.

That'll be for the new model coming out soon, not the old one. pd you're most likely wrong - i would assume this machine would "qualify": The OS X Mountain Lion Up-to-Date upgrade will be available at no additional charge from the Mac App Store to all customers who purchase a qualifying new Mac system from Apple or an Apple Authorized Reseller on or after June 11, 2012.
Customers must request their Up-to-Date upgrade within 30 days of purchasing their Mac computer. Customers who purchase a qualifying Mac between June 11, 2012 and the date when Mountain Lion is available in the Mac App Store will have 30 days from the OS X Mountain Lion release date to make a request.
When Mountain Lion becomes available in July, come back to this page for details on how to request your copy of Mountain Lion.
It is a great little computer, but that 2GB of RAM is a rough patch. Some think of that little 11-incher as a solid replacement for an iPad, which is an interesting argument. But for serious computing, get one of the new models...

2gb is fine for an 11 in machine.. for web browsing and videos. It goes a long way on OSX.--- but 4GB definitely increases the resale value though.

You can get the newer 11" air with educational price for $949 direct from apple. And you will get these upgrades from this deal: - 4gb ram - 1.7ghz ivy bridge processor (next generation faster than sandy bridge) - Intel HD Graphic 4000 - Mountain Lion OSX - $100 gift card to spend at Apple.com
So if you take out the $100 gift card from the price, you are getting the new macbook air for only a little bit more money. I think those upgrades are well worth the slightly more money.

MacBook has not the biggest displays but the looks, and the weight makes it stunning!

Will it play dvd from usb drive? What about bd? Apple still do not support Sony technology?

IMPORTANT CORRECTION:
The $100 gift card with that deal can only be spent at the App Store, NOT at Apple.com This fact unfortunately reduces its resale value.

It's down to $739.99 now. What are people's thoughts about it at around $795 out the door price with tax?

This is a staggeringly awesome computer, and if you think "only" 2 gigs of RAM kills it, you've never used a MacBook Air.

Does anyone know what the battery life on one of these is per charge, and if there is a way to hook it up to an external monitor, because the best buy site said it has no hdmi out on it.

Yeah, about 4-5 hours on mine. Also, you can hook it up to a monitor with a mini-display port adaptor. You can find them on Amazon for around 8 bucks.
I have the 11" with 4gb of ram and 128gb of ssd, and the computer absolutely FLIES for everything. I've never had a slowdown, and would imagine the 2gb would be just as fast. The SSD is what makes this computer amazing. The only thing you couldn't do with 2gb is any kind of editing.

Thanks OP. I just bought a MC968LL/A two days ago from Microcenter for $829. I saw the $739 price, called microcenter, and they refunded me the difference back to my CC. I'm happy as a lap dog!

On a windows machine if you remove all the bloatware including anti-virus, spyware detector etc.. it will also be super fast. Apple OS is somewhat naturally protected against lot of those threats because it is a closed system when compared to Windows. I am sure ultra-books with Windows 8 will be very fast and instant on like Apple.
