Honestly, the sound is not great, but nor do I find it totally unlistenable. I played around with the sound settings and found that the quality was much improved by turning up the bass, switching to the Live preset, and enabling the Surround Sound setting;
Most TV's in this side have horrible sound quality, unless you are spending a lot for a small-size Sony, Panasonic, or Samsung (and even those aren't that great). I heard that these smell-sized Sharp's aren't even manufactured by them. An old webpage I found (2006) shows TV's under 32" are either made by Funai or Orion. Unless you are insistent on having the Sharp name, you may be better off waiting for another ~$199 32" Seiki LED deal.
