800 x 480 res screen, 512 RAM and only 2G SSD.

I'm guessing most comparably priced Android tablets would be more useful.

Here is a short video LINK of this tablet running

Yeah, these came out in 2008 during the UMPC (Origami) craze. A Nook Color or Kindle Fire will run circles around this nowadays.

In for 3.

Nook and Kindle Fire are great, but can't run Windows XP apps. This is great for special-purpose use. Meets iTunes minimum requirements, for example. A media client that can stream iTunes, via Home Sharing, for example.

There is a microSD slot, where you can dump all apps and files.

Edit: With USB host, it makes for a cool little retro gaming setup too. Kickstand + Genesis controller = Sega Nomad replacement!

Ironically, Nomad was one of the first deals I bought as a child, $60 on clearance at toys r us... eerily similar price, and epic fail for a great device too.

I couldn't stand it. I have no idea what I'm going to use this for, but I'm in.

yesterdays technology, today!

Update: This is actually a pretty modern UMPC. Built in '08, it has an Atom Z500 with a GMA 500.

The GMA 500 is actually an Imageon, the same GPU company that makes GPUs for iOS. It's the most powerful of the early GMA's only recently eclipsed by the Intel HD graphics line that replaced GMA.

The CPU is a Z500. While downclocked, this is one of the more modern Atoms, definitely not a Pentium M like the HTC Shift. Newslink

This certainly sounds interesting, but a single core running at 800MHZ with 512MB of RAM will require a lot of patience when running Windows XP apps.

It is older model and OS is Midinux Linux.XP model was introduced only in Taiwan in 2009.

“I also have Linux!” it announced, to even heartier applause.

Per the specs on the listing, please remove the Windows XP from the title, looks like people have already bought it based on that misinformation!

Folks,
I did my research on this last night and it looks like a pretty good deal for $59 (orig price 499) due to the following reasons:

1.Even though windows XP is old it was a very stable OS for a decade and to get an entire
os on a tablet and the benefits of thousands of apps running on XP is a good deal.Plus its got a
USB port which will let you connect a myriad devices like cameras, webcam, scanners, game controllers etc

2.Supports all three browsers like chrome, firefox and IE and Adobe flash and windows media player

3. Supports the entire suite of MS office

4.Reviews say touch screen is quite responsive plus its got a on screen keyboard or you can attach any keyboard via USB

5.Has a external SD card slot .SD cards are very cheap

6.ITS GOT WI FI !Lastly its also a gsm phone (2G - 900/1800/1900 & 3G - 2100)

Android tablets wont even do half of what this does!!

I love gadgets but cannot seem to find the nerve to actually buy on of these. The price is right but the technology is over 3 years old. How would you load XP on it and how much slower would it be with that OS?

Looked good, till I found out it does not have windows XP.
"Operating system: Red Flag Midinux Linux"

Daily Steals has pulled references to Windows XP. It's not clear if they made an error, or ran out of XP stock and switched to Linux stock quietly.

We'll see.

Finally found a reason not to buy it: does not have wifi g. Only b/g. So while it would still work for me, in a few years I might not be able to anymore.

Guys when I ordered last night it was pretty sure it said Win XP on the daily steals site
Did they run out of stck on the XP.There were 2 version of this tablet that was originally released

If it matters what OS you get then contact DS and ask them. If not ... let it slide.

I have been looking for one of these for years. Thanks Butcherboy!

Can we install Android 4.0 ICS in it?

Are you joking, or not very bright?

B/G means B or G. So it has G.

Not in any usable way. Intel's port of Android for x86 lacks chipset support for their desktop/notebook/MID systems.

I suspect that they have been contacted quite a bit, and are running around like chickens with heads removed. I sent in my email. I wouldn't have bought this deal without XP.

Sorry, I meant I won't get it because it doesn't have n

Having n would have been quite a trick for a device sold in 2008 as the final standard (for wireless n) was not approved until September, 2009.

Is Wireless G really going to be the bottleneck on this device?

Because of this error, we are accepting cancellations for any buyers interested in doing so. They just need to e-mail us with their order numbers and we will cancel their shipments with a full refund applied.

I apologize again for the situation, and we are certainly willing to resolve it for any customer who wish to do so.

And to add injury to insult, the other offering on that N1 wireless site has the SAME problem. Their product page says Windows XP, but when you put it inside your shopping cart, it says Linux.

I've had it with this deal, and will just wait until they wind up on fleabay.

any way to put linux apps on it? or mess with OS? aything good about the version of linux? wonder how good wifi reception is?

who would buy a dorky 3 year old tablet? at least this is a better deal then the defunct HP pad.

Looks so old and crappy. Maybe good for a 3 year old kid?

lexx said:   any way to put linux apps on it? or mess with OS? aything good about the version of linux? wonder how good wifi reception is?

Problem with Linux is the GMA 500 is terrible for Linux. Intel typically gives video card source code, but the GMA500 is actually made by Imageon, same GPU maker as iPhone.

TL;DR Better GPU, but only in Windows. And that's why I told DS to give me my money back.

Why are you comparing this to a tablet?? This is a hell of deal for a specialty machine especially in this size. The whole point is that it runs XP.

cptbarkey189 said:   who would buy a dorky 3 year old tablet? at least this is a better deal then the defunct HP pad.

So, can you still manage to install XP on this? It's a smoking deal IMO, even if you have to install XP yourself. I have some any uses for this such as IP PBX, mini CCTV monitor, use for portable streaming video, on and on.

Those that compare this to tablet has no clue.
