I'd be all over this if it was an ATT or Tmobile version so it could be used as a world phone. One of the only reasons I dont switch to Sprint/verizon's superior coverage.

If I hadn't purchased mine last year from a private party (for twice this price), I would get this. Still love webOS...

This is tempting. I have a Palm Pixi but I've had issues with it - the Touchstone compatible case doesn't seem very durable and the older WebOS is a bit laggy and buggy. I guess that's a moot point since WebOS is pretty much done for... but I hear 2.x is at least a little better. If this ever gets down to $50 or less I'd probably jump on it.

Wow, Verizon was still selling this for $149 just a few days ago with a 2yr contract.
I'm a Big WebOS fan. Have used Pre+, Pixi+, and currently run a Verizon Pre3, yes a 3.
I bought a Pre2 from Verizon as a $50 upgrade for my Daughter during a sale a while back but she is still on her Pixi+. I guess she will switch when it dies.
Tempted to get one of these as a cheap backup to the Pre3 at this price.
If you do get one be sure to go to Precentral.net now Webosnation.com and check out how this phone can be updated. Preware is a must.
Unfortunately there are not as many apps as Android or Iphone, but there are some good ones.
The best thing about the webos phones is the touchstone charging. You can pick a touchstone up for cheap now. Chech eBay or Amazon for those.

Rats! I just bought a replacement for my Pre2...for 2x as much. I still love my phone and hate the thought of what I will eventually have to give up when I have to move on.

If I had not just bought one I would be jumping on this. I am still considering if I need a back up for my back up at this price.

Question to pre 2 owners. Which of these browsers can you load and use on this phone? Opera Mini, Dolphin Browser or Google Chrome?
I've been happy with my Pixi but recently decided to burn my final upgrade before they don't allow you to keep unlimited data. If I didn't have a Galaxy S3 coming, I'd probably grab this Pre just to "upgrade" a bit. Still, it is too bad WebOS is dead.

From information at Kitty Wireless this does appear to work on Page Plus.

I'd assume it should work the same way as activating a new Pixi Plus: Howard Forums link
However, I don't have a Pre 2 (yet, anyway), so can't guarantee the procedure is identical.
Will Verizon force a data plan if I activate this on an out of contract line?

Hm, thinking.... I have a Palm Pixi and an HP touchpad, like both of them a lot. But do I like them enough to continue with obsolete hardware and dead-end street software? Google now offers (https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hs... the Nexus $349 contract free, will have Jellybean 4.1 in July. Compare e.g. the screeenresolution: Nexus has 6 times the screen resolution of the Palm Pre. Thanks to the OP anyway, this may work for some, but I think I realize now it is time to move on.

I have the same dilemma - do I upgrade to a better but obsoleted Palm Pre 2, having already owned both a Pixi and Touchpad? The biggest downer for me was when the Google Maps API went away, forcing Bing Maps. I hate Bing Maps! Not to mention most of the other prehistoric apps on the Pixi. I'm sure WebOS 2 is a little better, but by how much?
These days it's hard not to pay an arm and a leg for a smartphone if you're not on a contract with a big name company. I guess it might be worth it in the long run though if you're with PagePlus or prepaid...

I use a Palm Pixi on PagePlus. If you overclock it, WebOS is much less laggy.
You just need to install something called "PreWare." Just search for it. Then you can add all of kinds of apps, overclock the cpu, and other stuff.

Verizon doesn't even sell Palms on their website. Get a used droid instead. I have a pre plus got a droid x I still need to put on page plus. Stay away from palms, trust me!

For a basic user, especially someone using PagePlus, there is nothing wrong with WebOS. It lacks "toys", but my Pixi has a decent browser and apps for Pandora, Yelp, Open Table, Slacker, and Twitter. Heck, even YouTube runs pretty well on there.

For current pre 2 owners, does the Pre 2 include a Touchstone compatiable charging back installed from the factory or do you need to buy as an optional accessory and replace the factory installed one like the Pixi Plus?

OMG, $4.99 to ship a 3lb box anywhere in the US! What are they thinking? Then again , I hear you charge $50-$75 to ship a single laptop you sell on eBay so I would not be so quick critizing others like DS who have always charged a nominal < $5.00 per unit ordering and shipping fee vs the 500-600% markup you charge your customers.

That is not what I hear. Your "free shipping " is relative to net price paid. You do not offer discounts if I buy more than one of your "free shipping" laptops. It is not free when you mark your item $50-$75 to cover handling and shipping that cost you a fraction of that markup. Would you feel better if DS sold these for $75 with free shipping? Isn't it still the same net price regardless of how many you order. How is this any different than how you treat your own customers with your jacked up free shipping?
Anyway back to the topic....

The instructions for activating a Palm Pixi Plus found on kittywireless.com are almost the same for the Pre2.
You can find plan options on PagePlusCellular.com or they are also on kittywireless.
Activations range from $0 to $.99, I usually use kittywireless or eBay. Also there is a facebook group for PPC where many dealers hang out and will do activations/ports for free if you ask.
BTW I have a Pre 2, it is superior to the Pixi+ in every way except the keyboard isn't as good, in my opinion. I pald almost 2x as much for mine used...

Nice, will that app work for anything? Or only stuff running WebOS 2?
It will work with everything, even the original Sprint Pre 1 and the Pixi (and other phones that still run webOS version 1.4.5)
