As much as I don't necessarily care for this magazine anymore, this is an awesome price. It's rare that you can get this magazine under $20 even after rebates, FC or whatever.

Mag is still good but the libraries near me carry all of them. The online subscription is way better than the print.

I like print version more than online. The online version is very poor with respect to filtering out product of your choice. The print rating many-a-times do not show up in online version for a while (which is surprising) so I discontinued online subscription and subscribed the print instead.

I'm probably wrong, but is it just me or has this magazine gone somewhat away from hands-on testing of products? I remember buying it off the news stand back in the 80's when they reported on how tools, cars, etc, handled and how well they were built internally (they would tear them open), and report how they were put together and with what size bolts, etc. It's been several years, but the last time I read through an issue they were basically reporting more on marketing feature comparisons without really appearing to have put the products to work.
This merchant continues to have dismal scores at reseller ratings, despite their "rah rah" posts here on FW. $14.70 isn't a great deal if your magazine never shows up.
red for the merchant, not the op. I no longer post deals from them and do not order from them. when their online ratings improve, I'll think about it.

It is a great price. Just renewed mine at publisher's rate. Heh. I do agree that the magazine has gotten certainly thinner over the years on product reviews, and I'll be darned if the past twelve months they haven't spent the vast majority of their ink on tablet and phone reviews. I guess you try to give the market what it wants.
I do hope the online version of their testing continues in some fashion though, it's a good organization doing good work.

won't help. you only have 60 days to dispute and they claim to allow 12 weeks for delivery. so you can't really dispute the charge. it's a no win with magazine subs.

FYI - check with your local library - they may have free online subscription to consumerreports.com The library I was once a member of (kcls.org in Greater Seattle Area) had this.

I paid with discover card so I have 120 days from the date of transaction. Hopefully that is long enough.

Also for what it is worth and I have no vested interest in the site but over the years I have purchased quite a few magazines using Best Deal Magazines some from posts here and others directly from their site and have never had an issue. Again that is just my experience but I wouldn't think twice about ordering from them.

I also had mixed-results with Best Deal Magazines. Some passed and some never showed up. As matter of fact, I ordered Consumer Reports dated back 2009 (Funny. I just checked email, the coupon code are EXACTLY same) and NEVER received a single issue. As pointed by others, it is too late to appeal with CC and Best Deal never refunded me. Instead of a bargain, I lost $20.

Customer satisfaction is our #1 goal at Best Deal Magazines. We've been around for more than 20 years now and if a customer has an issue with an order we are here to assist you. Please send your order information from the 2009 order to additionalsupport@BestDealMagazines.com. Once we know we are able to assist you in contacting the publisher to rectify whatever problem may exist in the publishers fulfillment system. If a refund is due to you, we will gladly issue a refund to you.

Then why the consistenly poor ratings on reseller? You need to get your online "reputation" improved, you post this same comment on all the best deal threads, yet I don't see any improvement in online reviews of your firm.

At Best Deal Magazines a dispute is never necessary. You are welcome to check with our customer service department around 7-8 weeks to check the status of your order. We can check with the publisher to find out if they show a start date for your order at that time. You may even have a first issue by then as well. It all depends on how quickly the publisher processes your order into their system, what their publishing schedule is and the advance printing of issues and mailing labels. There are many factors related to the start of a magazine subscription. Please send an e-mail to additionalsupport@BestDealMagazines.com at any time should you have questions regarding your order.

Best Deal Magazines does not set the delivery time of any magazine subscription. The individual publisher of any given magazine is the one fulfilling any order placed through Best Deal Magazines or any magazine subscription agent. There are many factors related to the delivery of a first issue. A monthly subscription will usually take approximately 8-12 weeks to receive a first issue. A bi-monthly or quarterly can take longer depending on the publishing schedule and when your order was processed by the publisher. A weekly publication can sometimes be received much quicker. Once you place your order with us it is sent to the publisher for fulfillment. The publisher must enter your order into their system and schedule your first issue for delivery. Most all publishers print 1-3 issues in advance and affix the mailing label of their current subscriber base onto those advance print issues. If your order has not yet been entered into the publishers system, you must wait for the next issue to be printed and your information affixed to the issue for mailing. This is where most of the delay in receiving a first issue is encountered. This is not something Best Deal Magazines can control. If there is ever a question about a start date for any order, please feel free to e-mail our customer service department at additionalsupport@BestDealMagazines.com. We can check status at any time after about 6 weeks which allows the publisher time to process the order and then we can usually see a start date. A dispute is never necessary as we will always ensure that you receive your order or promptly issue you a refund if necessary.

Then why the consistenly poor ratings on reseller? You need to get your online "reputation" improved, you post this same comment on all the best deal threads, yet I don't see any improvement in online reviews of your firm.
Please note that people love to post negative information whether it be true or false because the internet has no accountability for them. People do not take the time to post the positive. Best Deal Magazines processes several thousand orders each and every week. Where are the hundreds of thousands of positive posts regarding the service we offer our customers? There are a handful of negative comments out there that do not properly represent the business that we do. Anyone can post a review and remain anonymous therefore making the legitimacy of the reviews questionable. When a reviewer is not held accountable they can post anything they wish and people tend to believe it as fact when it is not. In the case of Reseller Ratings we have found that many of the posts were made by competitors attempting to discredit our business. In the past we were a member of Reseller Ratings and we did participate and respond to the posts which were made. If anyone reads through our responses, they will see that the issues were addressed. We stopped our participation with Reseller Ratings when their monthly fee for merchants went from a few dollars per month to several hundred dollars per month so we no longer participate with them and we are now unable to respond to the posts made since we declined to participate in their program. Do you think it is right for a forum to allow a person to post whether it be positive or negative and then require that the merchant pay a large sum of money every month to be able to respond to those posts?

Our 800 number is 800-332-0278. You will receive voicemail. Depending on the time of day that you leave your message, you will receive a call the same day. A message never goes unanswered.
Best Deal Magazines as well wants your order to always be right the first time. Once we receive your order it goes through many processes before you receive your first issue. FWIW, I have bought over 40 subs from these guys over the last 10 years or so and I have never had any issues with a single one. As for the poor ratings, I have to admit that I never rate any merchant (good or bad) on the reseller ratings site, or other rating sites (but ironically, I do check it from time to time). So I guess I am a terrible user for not reporting my good ratings, but I supposed I am not the only one, which is why many merchants (not just these guys) suffer with poorer than deserved ratings... just my 2 cents

For what it's worth, I haven't had any problems with my purchases from BestDealMagazines, either. I know what you're going through, however. I have tried to purchase Family Handyman magazine at several other fly-by-night online subscription brokers (frighteningly, more than one other reseller for this same magazine), and a deal is not a deal when your product is never delivered.
