No MicroSD card
No IR blaster (some people may like that)
No rear camera

Granted, I ordered my Nexus 7 the second I could, but don't dismiss the Tab 2 - it is a very good tablet. Also, Google charges tax and shipping, so in some cases, the Tab 2 may come out to be a good $40 cheaper...

who cares about SD card and local storage. Cloud is the way to go!
IR blaster? Really? who needs it?
rear camera on a table? That is what camera/phone is made for!

face it! anyone with a table has a intelligent phone and the previous negative are all resolved with a intelligent phone

Sometimes the sky is clear when you are traveling.

Wow. Didn't realize that the N7 had no mem slot. Going to have to think about this deal now...

By the way, the N7 has 5 CPU cores. One for low power. It has more cores than most laptops out there. What is there to think about? The new MacBook Pro has only 4 cores and costs 10x. Anyone who doesn't buy this table should be hit over the head with a laptop!

I have an "intelligent phone" as you put it and I want all the previously mentioned items in my tablet. Think about it, without all of these extras it is essentially a cheaper iPad. Actually the iPad has a camera on it so its really just a lower functioning tablet. Also all my information won't fit in the cloud for free.

This indicates that your brain needs additional cores to process the information correctly ,

I dare you to stream movies from the "cloud" (dropbox, Netflix) while connecting to your 3G/4G network. You'll hit your monthly cap easily. Even with the so called "grandfathered" unlimited data, Verizon is killing this even for long time customer.

Even with WiFi at public places (Hotel, Starbuck) it is really slow. So slow and many hotels have option for customer to PAY to get "prioritized" bandwidth. Google it: iBahn and Marriott.

At the end of the day, you STILL need some sort of local storage. Otherwise, laptops will only come with 16GB SSD (just enough for the OS) and the rest will be "cloud" only...unthinkable for now thanks to the carrier who is charging $30 / month just for 3GB of data..

Uh, I care about local storage, I like having 40gigs of movies, data and music available at anytime... Cloud is NOT the way to go on a wifi tablet, that is just plain stupid!

The IR remote is awesome, and I use it alot.

Cameras are crap on all tablets, so I'll give you one point...

I will guarantee that my Tab2 can do and run everything the Nexus 7 can, and you wouldn't know the difference... Hype is hype.

Bashing a tablet because you have a "mine is better than yours" attitude is just plain ridiculous...

You are right. This tablet has too many things Opathal does not like, so Samsung might as well close up shop. Opathal has spoken!

8GB or 16GB sucks - I fill that with a couple of movies and my cached L=Spotify]/Spotify-coupons/#shopnow=http://www.spotify.com[/L]. I use the ir blaster at hotels since their TV remotes usually don't work and I love having a decent camera in my tablet - I may not NEED it, but it is nice to have as an option. Only thing the Tab 2 lacks (and so does the Nexus7) is HDMI out...

Since noone pointed this out, I will say that the most important point of getting the nexus 7 instead of the galaxy tab 2 7", considering their hardware pros and cons as a whole a wash, the nexus 7 will ship with android 4.1 aka JELLY BEAN, which will sport a great list of very good improvements. Samsung is known to delay OS updates for its phones and tablet by at least 6 months if not longer. I've had the first ipad, nook color(stock and rooted/cyanogen etc) new ipad, transformer pad 300, and have sold them all after using for only few months, then collecting dust in the dark corner of my living room...I always found that using my smartphone, and laptop/desktop was always more comfortable than holding a tablet.

one thing it might be worth pointing out is that Nexus 7 has an 1.2Megapixel FRONT camera, very useful for video/Skype calls if you do that often. a VGA camera is very very crappy( the one in the galaxy, as well as the one in the iphone4 and 4S)

These two devices and their differentiated specs meet users' specific needs. I thought choice was a good thing? It seems silly to fight about it. Just buy the device that works best for you...

one annoying thing about not having a back camera is depositing checks or scanning something for evernote

I have to agree with the reasons provided by ThenewzzZZ. Samsung doesn't have the best record for updates although they have been getting better. In fact I've believe they didn't even bother to update the original Galaxy Tablet from Froyo. That leaves me thinking about whether this tablet will ever see 4.1 (Jelly Bean) or any of the subsequent versions of Android. There are several other reasons that I'm not holding off from buying this tablet.
* Samsung layers their Touchwiz overlay on Android and I've heard plenty of people complain that it is a resource hog. They also change several Android settings to accommodate this.
* The lower resolution screen (1024x600). The higher resolution screen on the Nexus 7 (1280x800), IMO, will result in all tablet apps being optimized for this resolution. While a MicroSD expansion slot is very high on my list of requirements (that's the only thing that has caused me to hold off from buying the Nexus 7), I have to weigh it against the prompt updates that it will receive to the latest version of Android.

If Google had only provided a MicroSD slot, that would have made the decision soooo easy....

It has USB so you can plug in a usb drive!

How convenient! that thing sticking out waiting to snap in half in 3...2...1

I think the 16GB version is worth it if you dont have tons of VIDEOS or movies, the 8GB would be enough if you just have some music. In fact, I've never reached 5GB storage with my previous tablets... excluding apps which took about 1GB.

Those who is concerned about storage, you can get the Seagate GoFlex Satellite (Link here).

It's a 500GB, portable hard drive with built-in WiFi and battery. You can stream movies from here to your Tablet. You can also copy files from/to the drive using any Android File Explorer app, like ES Explorer or File Manager.

Although price may seems higher, it's much cheaper per megabyte. I.e. 64GB SDXC card is about $60; GoFlex 500GB is about $180.

I don't understand the not needing an SD card argument. I use my tablet for movies alot (on planes especially). Cloud storage aint doing you any favors there.

not bad,can be a nice deal~

I need more than 16gb, MicroSD slot is very important. All in all Nice tablet

The deal is nice, but I like the tablet that I'm having! Thanks!!!

acrobrenel said:   The deal is nice, but I like the tablet that I'm having! Thanks!!!

And that is?? I have a Galaxy Tab (1), iPad and Touchpad. All have their uses- the 7" goes in the kid's hands so they can watch Netflix/movies on microsd, I like the Touchpad (yes, with WebOS) and my wife uses the the iPad. With Google setting the 7" tablet price point at $200, I think it'll be hard to get other quality tablets $150 and under...

The IR blaster on the Tab2 is really interesting... something I wish other tablets would include.

gah..brainfart. nevermind

No details about it at all.

OP, update the thread. Seller upped the price: $246.95 - Buy It Now

Nice deal. I will never understand the "if you choose a different device than I did, you're an idiot" reasoning. Personally I won't often, if ever, use a 7" device to watch a movie and I will never use a tablet to take photos so the Nexus 7 is the better device for me. On the other hand, if you do want to watch a lot of movies or take photos with the tablet, this is clearly the better choice. Wouldn't life be boring if there was only one choice for everything?

Sure, but who wants to carry a USB OTG cable and card reader when you can just pick a tablet that has it built in?

.
My Galaxy Note has 7GB used for an offline Google world map, so wherever it is, I can get a GPS map fix to a Km or so. Videos are not the only stuff to put on SD cards

Also, the Nexus 7 GPS does not support the extra GLONASS satellites, while the Samsung does. I find GLONASS really speeds getting a fix with my Galaxy Note...

OMG I was so concerned the quad core HD Nexus 7 wouldn't support GLONASS. It appears my worst nightmares have come true....

Regardless of whether this tablet has one or a hundred cores ... the link the op provided shows a price of $247 and NOT $220. Is a coupon/code required to get the OP's price? If not this deal is dead.

Yep, looks dead.
