FAQ:
1. How does this work?
Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?
Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?
5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?
Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?
No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?
Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?
No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?
YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?
YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?
Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?
Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

Get a 25 cent DVD from a pawn shop, trade it in and get a $9.99 Blu-Ray with $10 movie coupon for $4.99 a/c, see a movie for free. Not too bad for $5.24+tax.

Also, if you do the Ice Age deal, you can trade it in to Amazon for $6.05. A lot of leg work for a free movie and pocket change...but hey, if you're strapped for cash...

Sweet! Time to scour the DVD pile to see what I've already double dipped on...and what I no longer like.

excellent find & explanation
I'm low on DVD count and would be hitting up BIG LOTS and maybe a pawn store

This deal seems to be limited to select list of Blurays.

Looks like that link is from 2011. I haven't actually seen the promo on Best Buy's website yet so I don't know for sure whether there will be restrictions on titles this time or not. However, it seemed like the general consensus on blu-ray.com and CAG was that it would work on any title (with the possible exception of music blurays)

I bought a bunch of bluray Movies last time this deal was available at BestBuy. There were no restrictions then either. You could get any blurays.

Yuyak is right. My link seems to be pointing to the 2011 deal. By bad.

AFAIK, there are no restriction on BRs (only $9.99 and up)
I purchased a few last time around and had no problems

Awesome. Thanks for posting this. I have some duplicates and old dvds I can definitely get rid of. And I appreciate the comments explaining how the blu ray purchase options work too.

Do the dvds have to be free of scratches? I have ones that still play but may have minor scratching as i have three kiddos!!

BELLA13626 said:   Do the dvds have to be free of scratches? I have ones that still play but may have minor scratching as i have three kiddos!! Might depend on the CSR you get, but I honestly don't think it matters. My guess is that most will not even look that carefully.

Just updated the OP with a bunch of upcoming deals based on next week's ad.

time to unload all the "Dora" and "Thomas the Train" dvds

THIS LINK from the OP seems to indicate that you must submit to an 'upgrade check' on your mobile phone to get the $5 coupon, and the coupon is limited to one per customer.

Hm.. interesting. That would be unfortunate. The article linked in the OP also mentions the 5/day limit (which suggests it's not 1/customer). I wonder which is correct. Maybe YMMV? I didn't have to do any phone upgrade check last time around.

JosiOK said:   THIS LINK from the OP seems to indicate that you must submit to an 'upgrade check' on your mobile phone to get the $5 coupon, and the coupon is limited to one per customer. I believe they are two separate, but related, promos. See http://www.examiner.com/slideshow/july-15-21-2012-7-15-7-21-best...

It sounds like you can get 1 free $5 voucher for doing the phone upgrade check thing (no DVD trade-in necessary). If you don't want to do the phone upgrade check (or you want more than 1 voucher) you can also get the $5 coupons by trading in DVDs.

I was just at my local BB and there are a few other movies at $9.99 that have $5 movie cash for DKR. The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, Blade, Blade Trinity, Clash of the Titans, Constantine, Inception, Insomnia, Sherlock Holmes, Sucker Punch, Superman, Superman II, Terminator Salvation, V for Vendetta, and Watchmen: Director's Cut are all stickered. Also, the Christopher Nolan Director's Collection has $8 in movie cash for DKR.

Yep. Rep didn't even open the cases of the two DVDs I handed him.

Thanks Yuyak for the great post. Just did a literal trade in of the two Batman movies (had both on DVD) - this was a complete no brainer to upgrade to the Blu ray versions. At $5 each (after trade in coupon) PLUS $5 movie cash that I'll actually use PLUS ultra violet digital copies included this is a terrific deal.

One other thing. This is unadvertised, but Warner Bros has a rewards program. It's similar to Disney, but much more poorly supported. You can enter your UV codes for 150 points per movie. This goes for any WB digital copy code. You can sign up and enter codes here http://insiderrewards.warnerbros.com/

The redemption part of it is currently not working, and I don't know if these points will ever really have value, but its free, so there's no reason not to enter the codes in case one day you'll be able to use them for something good.

Thanks OP! I turned in: 2 dollar store movies, 2 former Blockbuster rentals and an old cartoon.

C/S checked to make sure they were all in the cases and gave me the coupons, no questions asked. As I was shopping for movies, a phone rep came up to me and gave me another for checking my phone and told me to run 2 transactions to get all six movies - worked fine and all had $5 movie cash

I need to go dump my old DVDs. Thanks guys for bumping

and thanks Wooben for reporting on those movie vouchers.

Got batman begins & the dark knight blurays for $10 with two $5 coupons to the new batman movie. Sweet deal for trading in 2 old dvds!

Same deal, only my $5 codes looked like they were scratched out on the label and the website tells me they were already redeemed.

I got there at 10:04 and was surprised that there were not that much people. I got MI4, Matrix Tenth Anniversary, Ice Age 3, Terminator Salvation, Kate & Leopold(wife wanted it). Not sure if I want to get American Reunion for $15.00. Rather wait for a American Pie Box Set some time later.

Upgraded a few DVDs to Blu, plus the movie cash, Thanks!

FYI: The Ice Age Movie Money stickers state that they are $5 towards an upgrade to see a 3D movie, but when you print, it omits the 3D requirement and it can be used for the more affordable non 3D version

thanks for the heads up

Can you stack the $5 movie cash? How do these things work?

NeuroSynapsis said:   Can you stack the $5 movie cash? How do these things work? I'm not sure if this is a joke or not. If no, the answer to your questions are pretty explicitly answered in the OP. Those questions correspond to the FAQ question 11 and 1, respectively.

On an unrelated note, all the BB's near my house were sold out Mission Impossible, but was able to snag a copy on my lunch break at a BB near my work. I grabbed 5 DVDs at the dollar store and traded them in. At the first BB they handed me vouchers that were printed on glossy, thick paper, but at the 2nd BB, they were just black and white photocopies of the original voucher that I could just make copies of if I were a less ethical man.

I believe that poster was asking if the movie cash coupons/vouchers/whatever can be stacked, not the Blu-Ray coupons.. Meaning, if a movie costs $10 at the theater, can two of the movie coupon vouchers be used to pay for it.

Ah, my mistake. sorry.

So trying to answer THAT question... there are actually a few different types and they differ slightly from company to company, but:
1) I don't think you can stack them, but I'm not sure (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)
2) To use the movie cash, basically the movie comes with a web address and a code. You go to the website, enter your code and can print out a movie cash certificate. Take that print out to your theater and they'll just deduct that price from your ticket price. You have to use the voucher for the specific movie it's designated for (you can't use the Ice Age movie cash for say SpiderMan)

Yes, this is exactly what I mean.

I'd actually need 3 BluRay's per IMAX admission LOL

Having printed out the TDKR movie cash, there is nothing anywhere that says you can't use more than 1 per ticket. Of course there is nothing specifying that you can either. Its probably YMMV, but I don't really see why they wouldn't allow it.

I just got home and checked my voucher and I also do not see any restrictions against stacking. Would be cool if I can stack a few as non-matinee movies in my area are $10+

Also, I forgot to mention earlier, while I was there I saw all the Bourne movies for $10 (pre-voucher) and it looked like it came with an $8 Fandango voucher (presumably for the new Bourne movie)

If what I think I saw is correct, it should be. Sorry I was in a rush so I didn't look very carefully, but it looked like that was on sale for another week after this or something so even if it's correct, you probably don't need to rush. Now that you ask, I'm starting have doubts on whether it really was bluray or if it was DVD. If I stop by there again in the near future, I'll report back.

Borne was $14.99 with $8 Fandango vouchers at mine.

just traded in a DVD for a BB $5 coupon and bought TOTAL RECALL - mind blowing edition for $5+tax-- just released last month. This is the original movie and the colors, contrast, and audio are superb. It is a dramatic upgrade from the first versions of the movie transferred to BR.
