Great deal for a great camera! Lowest price I've seen on this was $323 a few weeks ago. Yesterday was $339.

Spectacular camera and a fantastic price... And if you're wondering what makes this different from other "small" cameras, the answer is: Everything. This camera is fully capable of taking DSLR-quality shots, and has the magical benefit of being able to fit into a jeans pocket. I take it everywhere.
Believe the reviews about battery life. Buy an extra battery (I purchased two of the generic ones, around $8 each, and they work just as great as the Canon ones).

Not sure why you think that.. the Current model has only been shipping for about 8 months. And the previous model (the S95) continues to sell very well.
Either way, Canon is not going to be shipping a follow-up model to the S100 anytime soon.

Is it just me or is Canon reusing an old model number? I could swear my original digital point-and-shoot from 10 years ago was an S100...

Good I'm not crazy I was just looking at some pictures from it. At the time I thought they were amazing but now almost embarrassingly bad. I remember I paid $450 for the thing too!

The S100 barely shipped before Christmas. An "announced" camera isn't one you can actually take a picture with.
Anyway, $299 is a smoking deal for this amazing camera.

you will likely see a lot of deals on the s100 due to the bulletin canon put out about the lens issue on july 2nd, this is/was the one i was looking for but i think I'll wait for the next model.
if they drop under $200, i might do it and hope to avoid the lens issue or just have to get it repaired

This, however, is an exaggeration. It's a great camera with a nice fast lens (i.e. low-light shots in bars come out OK without a flash) and is my personal choice when I go out with friends. If I'm going somewhere specifically for photography my DSLR and lenses get lugged along. There's a huge difference between a full-up DSLR and any PS camera. For non-photographers I'd suggest this as a fantastic choice for your do-all-go-every camera. Even if you leave it in auto 100% of the time
