Know of any 2.5-inch 500 GB SATA USB 3.0 drive out there this low? This one also supports FW800 and Thunderbolt with adapters.
I think it's a fantastic deal, bought four yesterday. Cleared out my region. That said, I need them for work.
Be warned it is on clearance, so Staples stock will vary.
Edit: Use http://sd.site88.net/ to check stock, web site will not work for that on this one.

I haven't checked Seagate externals, but apparently for the last few years all their 2.5" externals have all been USB-only, meaning their circuit boards connect directly to USB, without first going through a SATA-USB converter board.

Reepair.net once published a guide to converting Seagate or Western Digital 2.5" internal USB-only drives to SATA by bypassing the SATA-USB bridge chip on the drive's circuit board and soldering wires to a SATA data connector. That guide may have originally come from the Vietnamese website that distributed a ton of schematics for laptop and desktop computers.

I was able to open up the enclosure and use it as internal drive on my laptop. The drive is a bit thick, 12 mm against 9mm original drive; buy it still fit in my laptop. Installed windows 7 on it.
