I own this phone, very good 4G LTE with AT&T, only drawback is crappy battery's life, other than this it is a solid phone.
Never saw it under $130, hence $99 seems to be a good deal for a brand new phone.

Is everyone busy pre-ordering IPhones 5 ? shame on you.

Would this be considered a "smartphone" and thus require a smartphone data plan??

dochollywood101 said:   Would this be considered a "smartphone" and thus require a smartphone data plan??

I think the target demographic with this phone is going to be Straight Talk users without iPhones.

seems like a great budget android, only $7 to unlock on fleabay for people stuck using alternative carriers.

anyone know of any custom roms that could speed it up, remove bloatware, etc.. ?

this one is unlocked for $100 (OP's 2nd link)

Unlock is 99 cents and it works just fine, I've done it:

Just now learned that this phone has the Micro SIM card slot which is a noticeable issue if planning on using this as a replacement phone for me with regular sim card.

Not a problem. You can cut your normal sim cards with one of these bad boys or there are manuals on how to use scissors:

Could you provide the link to that info? Thx.

Which info ? Micro Sim ?
Here: http://www.ask.com/answers/103337581/what-type-of-sim-card-does-...

Noticeable issue ?
There is no noticeable issue, because one can cut normal sim into micro and if needed use micro as normal sim using an adaptor.

Better to just buy the unlocked one, same price, Thanks OP!

budget because its 100 bucks ? Because this thing is dual core snapdragon with 4" OLED screen, almost same specs as the tmobile galaxy blaze which they want 299 for as a prepaid phone.

Yes, its not an issue. my bad. but sim card cutter is needed.

Its micro sim from this review video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJRaOHwAS0c @2:15

Will this work for T-Mobile?

Run2You said:   Will this work for T-Mobile?

Yes, if you buy unlocked or buy locked and unlock.

Data speeds should be slower, because it was made for AT&T bands.
I used it with T-Mobile and it was ok, not as super-fast as AT&T, but all right for browsing/facebooking.

Thanks everyone for the cheaper unlocks. Don't know why those didn't show up when I did a search, but it looks like one version is unlocked anyways, so never mind.

Budget because the specs look good on paper, but not in reality (at least according to tech sites). Their biggest gripes? Yes it's a nice and big AMOLED screen, but it's resolution is 800x480. Yes it's LTE-capable, but reviews say that the speed is nearly half of the other LTE phones. It's got a 5 megapixel camera, but lousy flash and unflattering photos. Then there's the weak battery. Don't get me wrong, for $100, it'd be unreasonable to have it match to something nearly three times the price, but I would think this is better categorized as a great budget phone than a low medium-tier phone.

That said, I'm still super-tempted by the unlocked one.

So buy the locked or unlocked version $99
Get a AT&T Compatible Micro SIM Card from Straight Talk for $15
Activate on Straight Talk to port my number to the $45 unlimited plan

Thats it?

Yep, that's it.

Does anyone have any usage with this device (Pantech) that can compare it to other android devices that they have used?

Almost bit. These are RED not BLACk as pictured. I see that as a problem. Anyone else?

Yes, red color is an issue and that is probably why it is at 99.

Get a case for it.

Can this be updated to ICS?

It is said there is very little bloatware, but rooting will allow you to remove a few things.

The red isn't really obvious. Get a case.

This phone is really nice, i bought one for my mother, and it compares pretty nicely to some more expensive phones on the market...Heck, it worked better than my crappy Motorola Atrix 2... Screen is a little deep and rich on the hue, but really clear. The processor is excellent, and the battery seems to last at least all day of normal usage (NORMAL usage) and Juice Defender app installed. The front lock screen options cannot be changed, but that didn't bother her. It is a heck of a phone for $100! Sadly, it doesn't have gorilla glass, but she hasn't managed to scratch it yet in 6 months, so it must be coated with something. She has only ever called me over because the icons changed screens (Which was her fault) and nothing else.

Oh, and she uses it on Straight Talk... and I did have to cut the SIM, as it takes MicroSIM. I used a cheap SIM cutter from eBay, because I had to cut mine new Atrix HD too, but if you ever need it bigger, use the SIM adapters.

Can this be used with Pageplus cellular? And if so, can someone point to a guide on how to do this, thanks.

It takes a microSIM? Are you 100% certain?

I bit & green.

Will this work in Europe (Sweden)?

Hi, I'm using this with the Straight Talk $45 Sim only plan with a Straight Talk A&TT compatible micro sim in the Los Angeles area. It works very good here. You will need to set up a "Straight Talk" APN profile in the settings. After updating to the latest software (ICS)from their website I had a lot of data loading problems, I fixed this by going into the Straight Talk APN settings and removing the "Proxy" and "Port" info and leaving these blank. (Not certain if this will work in all areas but it works in Los Angeles) (Do not change the Straight Talk "MMS Proxy" and port settings). On AT&T network the 4G logo is on all the time and my speeds are about 2.5 Mbps to 4 Mbps usually. This phone uses the micro sim and not the regular sim size.
