Mistercheap, do you know anything about the "Buy $100 in MasterCard gift cards and get a $10 Staples® gift card". I don't remember seeing this deal before. Curious about the limit, and any fees on the Mastercard GC.
cnIsfg said: Also my ad is showing the 100% back in Rewards on Duracell batteries is back! Plus triple ink recycling on up to 5 carts when yo uspend $50 in HP ink.
Thnx on the Duracells, that page was cut off on my screen (didn't scroll all the way down, so I missed it).
Think it's LIMIT 2 PERIOD, either 2 AA's/AAA's or 1 pack of each. not per SKU like Office Depot.

yes, definitely a fee on those, either $4.95 or $5.95, at best a $5mm with rebate. Haven't seen the rebate fine print to know the limits. Possibly limit 1, but who knows. probably won't know til Sunday when it hits the website (staplesrebates.com)

OT: For those that don't already know Staples is implementing a reserve item for store pickup option in the next couple of weeks. This is similar to what Office Depot has offered for years. This new service is not the same as ship to store. You can see the initial code implementation of this service right now by checking local inventory for any item on Staples.com also sold in Staples B&Ms.

if the store DOES NOT have inventory, can you still ship an item there for free?

Nice to see Staples having some great deals-again. I'm getting overwhelmed with batteries and letter size copy paper, but free is free (well, you pay the sales tax).

Remember to save your battery receipts in case a 4th quarter gift card offer from duracell shows up like last year. (even better if they end up sending 2 gift cards again)
Thanks MrC, adding dates in title will be more helpful

That would lower the fees IF one can find $200 cards. In any case, I think I would run test transaction first on a $200 card and make sure the rebate shows up as $20 and not $10 for a $200 card. Also, some Staples only take cash for gift cards and some will allow one to use a cc. Use Amazon Payments to drain the cards. If one can only buy $100 cards I would still buy 2 cards in one transaction and see if I got $20 in rebates and not $10.

Master Card makes a "variable" amount card from $10-500, I think that's the card you'd have to load. Now if you do two at $500 ($6.95 fee), I wonder if you get $100 back and just pay $13.90 in fees? that would be SWEET!

I highly doubt that a $200 card would qualify for $10 x2 rebates. One card should be eligible for only one rebate.
Update: Staples Rebate CSR (Parago) replied to my email, saying that a $200 card would qualify for a $20 GC. Someone has to try it to see if the system actually works that way.

That Staples.com CSR is confused. This offer is no different that same offers Staples has done in the past. You get one $10 Staples GC for each physical MC Gift cad you purchase with a value of $100 or more limit 10....
Get a $10 Staples Gift Card on Purchase of $100 or more on Various Mastercard Gift Cards at Staples Stores Only

Try it and let us kmow how it works out BTW If you are looking for the variable MC GCs referenced by MC they are available from the store manager. Just ask. Staples pulled them late last year from the regular Stapels GC kiosk because they were getting stolen as fast as they were restocked. Thieves like the variable MCs because those variable MC GCs don't have the value printed on the physical card and look just like a regular MC.
Capital One credit card has a deal until 10/17, spend $50 at Staples, get $10 statement credit. (one time only) You just have to use your Capital One card when you pay and they credit you $10 on your statement.

Is it load account with MC GC, then pay yourself? Thx!Yes, but you face being banned from AP if you pay yourself with 2 accounts both belonging to yourself. You can't actually pay yourself with a cc with one account. You need 2 accounts. You need an SO to do an A to B transfer w/o issue. Never do A to B and then B back to A either even if you have an SO as the B. You can load B's card on A's account and then send the money to B. Then just remove the funds to B's checking account. No fees. Limit $1,000/month in cc payments per account.

As explained in Planet Retail, a retailer trade magazine….
Thieves steal real MCs from mailboxes, remove the activation needed label from the real MC or use ones they have printed up and place the label on the variable MCs they swiped from local retailers like Wal-Mart or in this case Staples. They then replace the real MC with the variable one swiped from Staples in the envelope and reseal if needed (Yes despite the billions major CCs spend on fraud prevention credit cards are often sent in unsealed envelopes). If the envelope is sealed they simply replace it with a generic new one as most physical CC are sent in plain inconspicuous windowed envelopes these days. The cardholder gets a new MC card thinking it is the one they were expecting and they activate what they think is their card using their home phone which activates the real card the thieves now have. Unlike just stealing CC numbers the banks are not as cautious so the cardholder and the merchant bank think everything is Ok for a billing cycles which is plenty of time for the thieves to drain the card through local merchants since they have the physical card which they can even sign .

Don't you have to enter the actual physical number on the card in addition to your phone number to activate it? obviously, a replaced one would be a different # than what a theif stole.

If you need these items then free with 100% rewards make sense. This is not like rebate, once the money is gone from your hands you are not going to get it back. Look at these as you are buying items for 1/2 price. If you spend $6.99 on paper (plus tax) and get that back in rewards, you still need to spend the reward certificate to buy products in their store. So if you buy another item for $6.99 with your rewards that item is free or you can say I got the paper and another item for $6.99. When you can spend on rebates you have a good chance of getting your money back, with this 100% rewards your money is gone. All I am saying to get these products only if you need them because they are not free free. I am not trying to threadcrap just want to spend your money with caution.

There are two bar codes on the physical card - one is the regular upc, and the other is the activation code. The activation code is usually seen via a cut out in the paper wrapping holding the card. The retailer at the POS has to scan the activation code (NOT THE UPC) and enter the amount (if it is a variable value card). What the thieves were doing is replacing the activation code, which can be done by photocopying one activation code and sticking it over the other. They now can replace the card on which they stuck the new activation code back in the store, and keep the card which had the activation code associated with the card number in their possession. once the unsuspecting user buys the card with the fake activation code stuck over the original activation code, the retailer ends up activating the stolen card and the actual buyer ends up with nothing at all.
Just make sure that the packet is sealed and the activation code appears to be printed on the plastic body one when buying the card. Do not rip open the packet, because then you will have a tough time at the POS trying to explain to the cashier why they are activating an open packet.

I know this really is not the proper place to post this comment, BUT since it is about the FREE Batteries... Here goes nothing: Hurricane Sandy hit NYC really hard. Especially the forgotten borough of Staten Island, which not only lost power, homes, but also lives. The news is not covering the full extent of the destruction there. They are in desperate need of help. I plan to donate the FREE Batteries I bought from Staples along with additional supplies they need. Since FW reaches out to many people, I was hoping the word can spread.
