These are good units and the price is great. If you are ordering and have limited undersink space due to filters, hot water dispensers, slide out garbage cans etc, make sure you have enough room for it. If not you need to (as I did) get one that has much less insulation and is therefore a bit noisier.

The only real difference I can find in my 'web research' is that the 9980 has the 3-bolt mounting system which may make things easier for replacing a disposal that has the same system -- rather than an extra step in making the 8000's EZ mount work as a replacement
Consumer Reports has a nice rating for the Legend 8000 Series, no reviews on the 9000 series, which is probably a later version and is available at Costco.

I had a turd InSinkErator (replaced 2x with leaks in the unit)....went with the "Legend"......it truly is a Legend.....no problems at all...a real workhorse.....but I am not familiar with the different models and the quality of each.
We had moved into a new house in 2004 - InSink Aerator worked fine for just over 8 years. I did look a lot and found that InSink only has a 7 year warranty. Not sure why we did not have the Wasteking one which always has a lifetime warranty. Have had this one installed since July and is much better.
