UPDATE: It seems the warranty period is determined by where the drive was manufactured. Units made in China are typically 1-year warranty, whereas if they were made in Thailand they could be 2-3 years.

I use hitachi 2TB for my windowsXP and it was fine. but I'm certain i won't mess with 3TB in Xp, I will put it on my 64-bit win7

It is hard to classify Caviar Black as a Premium HDD. I have the new Seagate Barracuda, the Caviar Black and the Corsair SSD M4 on this computer. I can say that I can not tell if I am working on the Seagate or the Caviar HDD. As a matter of fact, Caviar Black has a higher return rate than most other drives from a couple of reports on the web. Both my Seagate and Caviar Black are very reliable and fast. The Caviar Black costs more than my Seagate 7200.14.

It looks like the price is going down and is close to the price before the Thai Flood. Also, the SSD has effect on the hard drive products. Before the SSD, I was willing to buy a faster hard drive for my system disk. Now I am not willing to pay extra for a 'Premium' hard drive. Hard drives are getting to be a commodity product to me.

It is green for OP. I paid the same for a 2tb just a few months ago.

I'd like know how you pulled that off. Every drive that's ever failed me, Sea, WD, Hit, and Sammy has been 30 day on replacement. Same with my lifetime power supply warranty, 30days on replacement, and not even same model..boo hoo

I own 8 Caviar Blacks (1TB) .. I had one fail in the first month, then another fail after about a year. Zero failures in the past 3 years. 2 failures out of 8 is not bad in my book at 4 years.

I dragged my feet and didn't order at $119, but at this $121 price, the limit is now 4, so I'm in for 4 and hoping I can order another two in short order (pun not intended).

They can't do that. You are reading the warranty wrong. Replacement must have as minimum the remainder of the original warranty or 30 days, whichever is greater, not just 30 days. If you get a replacement four months into a 2 year warranty the minimum warranty on the replacement is 20 months. If you get a replacement 23.5 months int a 24 month warranty it is 30 days.
