Not even a zap let alone a shocker, must be a "Best Deal" because it's a staff member...

Actually, it's not a bad deal. I'm not rushing out to buy obsolete computer equipment, but if you need a "new" really tight budget rig, then this might fit. Might make a nice home NAS or Linux system.

Not a great deal. If they left out the AVG which is worthless to 99.9% of individuals and lowered the price to reflect that by $29.99 it would be a very good deal. Heck you could get a small hard disk for the price of AVG!
AMD Phenom II X4 B93 Socket AM3 Processor SKU: 425512 $39.99 Thermaltake TR2-R1 AMD CPU Cooler SKU: 950204 $9.99 Biostar A960G Socket AM3+ 760G mATX AMD Motherboar SKU: 463166 $44.99- $10 rebate Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3-1333 PC3-10600) SKU: 211276 $24.99 Cooler Master TC102 Mid Tower ATX Computer Case with 500W Power Supply $37.99

Yes, this would be worthless to me unless I planned to have Windows on it. A hard drive would have been a better add-in. My guess is that part of the "savings" was in that most AV companies will give away their product free for one year just so you use it. Linux doesn't really need AV at the moment, and if you have Windows, you can just use Microsoft's version free.

Agreed. That is a better system.
What we really need is a thread for building the fastest system for the least money. There are some creative bargain hunters here.

A quick suggestion regarding fast systems for small budgets: · Purchase an SSD for the boot drive, and · Store files on a secondary drive, external drive, or cloud system(s).
This, far and away, provides the greatest advantage when piecing together mediocre components.
Also, while not necessarily recommended by me personally due to limited experience in the matter, others I am acquainted with personally have found superb opportunities for components through bartering on websites similar to, and including, Craigslist.

Oh give me a break, you can get a 270 retail box online for $50 and still be out the door for less...

For a comparison:
I purchased a Biostar TA75M FM1 micro-ATX mobo with VGA/DVI/HDMI, USB3.0 front/rear, SATA6G, for $80, with free 8GB of DDR3 (Newegg special promo deal last week). I then purchased an A6-3670K BE quad-core FM1 CPU for $75 after promo. I also purchased a Xion micro-ATX slimline case w/300W PSU for $40 to put it in.
Altogether, that's $80+$75+$40 = $195. For a multiplier-unlocked quad-core LLano rig.
Just add DVD drive, SSD, and OS (like this Newegg deal).
