At this price, if the chest strap is Polar compatible, as implied by "Includes comfortable chest belt compatible with most treadmills and other exercise equipment", then taking a chance that the rest of it will be even slightly useful is not a bad deal.

I guess you must have your phone nearby - it says up to .8 meters (about 2 1/2 feet)

The "receiver" portion needs to be .8 meters. With an extension cable I suppose you could put the phone any where, but much beyond 3 feet and I'd think readablity would start to become an issue.
