I've been waiting for a deal on switches with more than 8 ports for awhile and these are the best I've seen by a fair bit in quite a while. The 16-port was briefly available for $50 over a year ago at Buy.com but sold out. It features 32Gbps forwarding capacity, back pressure control for half-duplex mode, and more. The 24-port is rack-mountable.

Hmmm ... There are 3 reviews in the Newegg page saying this unit has a fan. And, one of the comments on Amazon says so too. Guess TP-Link's page is incorrect. A little less tempting now.
From TP Link website, says the specifications only apply to * All above information apply to TL-SG1024D version 2.0 ONLY. So it may be in version 2.0 the fan was removed.

Hi,
I got my unit today. The sticker on the box says "Model: TL-SG1024D Ver 2.3". It is fanless. Out of the box, plugged up and running in less than 5 minutes. Much of that time was to disconnect 17 ports from the old switch and hook them up to the new one.
Here's hoping the rebate comes through as smoothly.

Hi,
Thanks, OP. Great deal. My switch has been running for 3 days now and no glitches. Nice and quiet.
Deal is still alive. I've been watching the price on 24-port gbit switches for a while. I was hoping to snag one under $50, but this is the best I've seen in a long time. Fanless too, can't praise this enough!
