Staff Summary

Green for guns.

Green for a good price on a great gun, especially as a practice alternative to one's real AR. Slap a can on the end and you've got an awesome fun gun, too.

One of the best and most fun guns out there..

Keep in mind that the Upper on this rifle WILL NOT fit on a standard lower (if you like to plug and play!)

Incredible price!

I've never owned a real firearm and am unsure of NJ requirements. Is there any way this can be legalized in NJ?

Thanks for the info Zombie. Another reason on why this state is the armpit of the US. Can't wait to get out of here.

Thanks BB - good price in time for Xmas!

Whats the difference in this vs this Mossberg besides $100?

I am a little interested in this as well, although I probably should already know more about both. I have been told that the Smith and Wesson rifles are built better, heavier duty, but have no first hand experience. I have also been told that the Smith and Wesson dimensions are closer to the standard AR15 pattern, also no first hand experience.

I seem to remember seeing a Mossberg AR style 22 a year or two ago and thinking that it looked really funny, but the one in that pictures looks nice enough.

Yeah, from what I remember, the S&W is more "authentic" (for lack of a better term) and just feels and operates more like a real AR.

Mossberg rifle is just a dressed up $150 Pinkster. S&W is pretty much a true AR albeit stuck with 22LR upper.

Probably worth reiterating what Angryblues said earlier. This upper and lower are NOT interchangeable with standard AR components. But when a dedicated .22LR upper costs as much or more as this deal, might as well get a separate gun, right?

But if the S&W isn't interchangable and the look, functionality (25rd clip, 16" barrel, compensator, etc.) are the same, is it worth the extra 40% in cost? For a 22 plinking gun, will I (or my son) really notice the difference? Would appreciate some insight as for the "authentic feel" of a AR, I'm tempted to save $100.

If you're just looking for a plinker, I suggest you do some googling for reviews on the two choices. I wanted a gun that would be cheaper to feed but that the handling characteristics would emulate my ARs (and therefore act as a training substitute) so I went with the S&W.

These two are not the same. SW looks, functions, and breaks down just like the regular AR. Mossberg only looks like one, but functions and breaks down differently. As I said previously, it's a cheapo Mossberg Plinkster that sells for around $150 dressed up in AR lookalike stock. There are other options though. Colt, Umarex, Omni sell AR 22LR packages that utilize a standard AR upper receivers allowing you to "graduate" to a standard 223/5.56 receiver when you're ready. These sell in the neighborhood of $400, give or take. Palmetto State Armory has these on sale frequently, so does Buds.

I jumped on this deal last week. Shipping was via FedEx and the rifle arrived at my FFL wihin 3 days of ordering. Great rifle and the ordering/delivery process with Woodbury was excellent.

Awesome, did you get notification when it shipped? With tracking?

I ordered one as well. Great deal.

Thank you very much for this link....very informative.

Yes, got a shipping confirmation email with the tracking info.

The world will end in 10 days. What good will it do then.

Excellent rifle. Great price too.

There is no comparison between the S&W MP15-22 and the other wannabe AR15 copies. As already stated, this gun was built to emulate not only the look, but a great deal of the function of the 5.56/.223 bigger brother (it was a fresh build and not a modification of an existing .22 design). The guns break down in the same manner, you'd cry if you decided to break down the Mossberg copy. Most reviews of the Colt compare it more to making an airsoft rifle fire a .22 thats how cheap it feels.

I recently bought the MP15 Sport as an upgrade and this 22 version is a very close copy. As mentioned you can't put a .223 upper onto this as they designed it to not be interchangeable (would destroy their market share to allow you to just change uppers).
