Please forgive me, but isn't the technology too ancient? With Google/Bing maps, who would bother to buy a DVD for map?

I use it extensively for my business, when planning visits to multiple clients in one day. Travel plans can also be saved as a file. While I may still use a GPS when traveling, it helps me estimate travel time, plan optimal routes - have yet to find an online service that offers such features.
I used this offline mapping software in the past and it was worth a few bucks to be able to plan trips a little bit easier. The price seems right. Is the GPS a worthwhile add on? Does it only make sense if you are actually taking a laptop with you in the car that's on the whole time for navigation? Otherwise, if it is for just pre-trip planning, just buy the software only?

Actually, it is very helpful to truck drivers. GPS has a small screen and harder to navigate. Microsoft Streets and Trips can save your trips and show various Highways and traffic. For pwesonal use it is a hassle but helpful when you plan multiple trips.

If anyone wants only the software, you can download from the MS website (or get the DVD) for 19.95.

I have the software only and feel it blows the online services out of the water with its features.

I drive a truck and it is nice to just set up lappy and use the software, also easier to find multiple routes, you can also upload your route to a gps if wanted.
It's also easier to save the routes if you find one that works good especially by passing tolls or low bridges.

Amazon also has this for $24.99 + Free Shipping - and NO tax for most
If you buy it in store, I recommend you print out the product page showing the price on Staples.com
I bought this same software last month (it was $14.99 on sale at the time) but the display and ring up price showed the regular price. I had an employee go to the Staples website and print me a out a copy of the webpage, and brought it to the register where the manager was called to do a price override. To save yourself some potential trouble, just bring you own printed page

And you have to pay lots of money as long as you use it!
The one with the GPS locator will be good if you don't have an unlimited data plan.

I'm in for the one w/ GPS locator - since my car was destroyed in Sandy I'm driving a van now. Plenty of space to mount a laptop one way or another, and I can see & log realtime data with the laptop while I'm at it.
Thanks OP.

So the version with the GPS receiver for $15 more seems like the better deal on Amaz0n, no?

Green for OP's deal and for the three above that mentioned (& linked) the Amazon deal. Went with the Amazon deal with GPS. No tax and free shipping with Prime makes it a better deal for me. Even with my Android phone I can find uses for this, and for this price it's a no-brainer.
(The $24.99 Amazon deal is OOS but if you click the link that reads a given number "New and Used" then you can get it for $24.99 and your CC is not charged until Amazon ships it when it's back in stock.)
