Even with TRU LEGO mark-up this is a good deal, at least for the Monster's set-- I paid about $13.50 incuding tax for the Monsters's set, the lowest Amazon has been this year is $18 and Amazon's usual price is $20.

For all of TRUs faults, they have made it much easier to take advantage of their deals beyond just taking your chances at showing up at their store: buy on-line and pick-up at store, free shipping no-min on many items with TRU credit-card, free-shipping over $50 with any credit-card. Plus you can combine with many other discouts that previous posters have mentioned (Groupon, paypal, birthday credits, coupons etc). If it is in stock at your store, it is pretty hard not to make this deal work for you.
The Groupon deal before is only valid in stores. No way to enter it at checkout online.
