it doesn't repair anything, it's basically wiping it off in the event someone is stupid enough not to try cleaning the disk

Let's see. The laser on a drive never touches the disk if it's working right. So this "cleaning" kit either doesn't touch the laser and therefore does nothing, or it does touch the laser gently and risks possibly ruining the "alignment" of the laser. Either way, why am I doing this?

Do you even click the links? It doesn't go inside the drive, it's a hand driven buffing wheel, which ostensibly spreads their spray into the damaged areas and allows the light to pass through. Seems it would just dry up and not work again, but maybe it lasts a while. Most serious scratches require Novus polish.
