Got a similar model HP with a 500 GB hard drive that was $400 at BB for Christmas. Gonna trade in and get this, but may trade up to get a $600 Acer that gets much higher reviews on Consumer Reports.
Anyone have any thoughts? Love the 17 inch screen, but for future proofing, maybe the higher performing Acer is the way to go.

Ended up taking the leap for a family member. It's fairly nice although my 2 year old loaded Vaio running a core 2 duo@2.3ghz with Blu-ray burner etc runs much smoother, after just installing windows 8 on it. Putting this HP on high performance, it still lags a little. On its own right, it's fine, but its definitely not a high performer. If its for light usage, its perfect, but for a heavy user, you will want something more powerful.
