Apple routers are better than average for non-techies. Easy to setup, rarely crash, solid range/performance.
However...If you are a techie...and you like network prioritization...stay away from them.
Final Note: The USB HD share function REQUIES the drive being either mac formatted (HFS+) drive or Fat32. You will be able to share it out over SMB without problem to windows clients....but if Fat32 won't suffice and you have to use HFS+, just remember if you remove the drive from the router any pc you connect it to will have to have drivers to read HFS+ setup.

yes, buy refurbs through apple. they have a more stringent refurb process. plus, products you buy from them always look cosmetically new..

frenchy said: pretty good router. easy to use, good range but not too many advanced functions. only 3 ethernet ports.More ethernet ports would be nice, and yes, they're not as feature-ful as some of the routers running DD-WRT or Tomato or other tinkerer firmwares.. But they've got among the best out-of-the-box IPv6 support you can find in a consumer router. That won't mean much to most US ISP customers currently but it will sooner or later.

I agree, this is a great price on a simultaneous dual band router.

For most people, these points cannot be emphasized enough. The 5th generation Extreme has better range than all but maybe a handful of other models, and is far and away the most stable consumer router I've ever used.

Great router - after years of putting up with flaky performance, obtuse setup and config pages, as well as failure after two or three years, a few years ago bought an AirPort Extreme (4th gen).
Bridged it to a crappy ActionTec router (req'd for FiOS) and works great with a TrendNet bridge. Also plays great with all the iOS devices we have.
Software polished and rock solid performance, no need for me to upgrade but this price is great.
