How does "Free 3G wireless connectivity" work? I know about free WiFi service via public routers at Starbucks and McDonalds, but have never used 3G. Does it matter if the 3G provider is ATT using CDMA service, or T-Mobile using GSM service. I assume that the Kindle is assigned a unique calling number that can only connect with an Amazon server. How does the service provider get paid--do they bill Amazon? Thanks.

Amazon has an agreement with cellular companies to provide 3G service to these devices. It just connects on its own without you having to know anything about the provider, the number, payment, etc. The older kindles were ATT (GSM) but I believe the newer ones are Sprint (CDMA).
