12,000 pages from a toner replacement, which I found at around $60 without looking hard , that's 4 times as much as my brother printer - I'm buying one

Not so sure about 12,000 pages. Duty cycle is 10,000...wouldn't that be the expected life of the printer?
From the manuf. website I found 1200 pages from a cartridge and the printer ships with a starter cartridge with a yield of 500 pages:
All-in-One Print Cartridge 1,200 prints Type SP 100LA *Declared yield values in accordance with ISO/IEC 19798 (equivalent to approx. 5% image coverage). Actual yields may vary based on images printed and other factors. The Ricoh Aficio SP 100 e ships with a starter toner cartridge that yields approximately 500 pages.

Warning! Warning! I see that, right on the Ricoh website, it says the toner cartridge has a typical yield of 12,000 pages, but:
1) it's a really cheap printer, and, typically, the cheaper the printer, the more expensive the consumables. 2) it's a super-tiny printer, and, typically, the smaller the printer, the smaller the toner cartridge. My printer has a cartridge with a 5K yield, and my cartridges are about half the size of this whole printer. A cartridge that holds enough toner for 12K prints would likely be as large as the printer itself. 3) it comes with a "starter" toner cartridge that's good for 500 pages. I am skeptical that Ricoh would ship a printer with a starter cartridge that has a yield of only 4% the yield of a full-size cartridge.
So I'd say "buyer beware" on that 12,000 page toner claim. I think someone at Ricoh hit the zero one time too many. It's gotta be a 1200 page toner cart. At $60ish, that's a nickel a print...not bad for an entry-level printer. If it were really 12K per $60 cartridge, I'd be snapping up a few of these. By the way, if you miss the 1SaleADay deal, it appears that Adorama is selling these through Amazon for $45 shipped: SP100e on Amazon
Maybe that 12,000 sheet claim on the Ricoh website is grounds for a class-action lawsuit!

In the case of my Samsung monochrome laser printer (ML-2851ND), which uses the same "duty cycle" terminology in its advertising, they're talking about the monthly printing capacity of the machine, not its expected lifespan. Mine is advertised as having a 50K monthly duty cycle (!); in its busiest month, I probably printed 5K pages. The first one died at around 80K...so if I'd been using it at its full "duty cycle", it wouldn't have lasted 2 months. I'm using its replacement now; I love it because the consumables are so cheap. Mine is a machine that's now obsolete; I have no idea if its replacement has similarly affordable toner or not. The printer cost around $100 on sale, and toner is around 2 cents a page, so it's much cheaper in the long run. In fact, my printer (with its 2K starter toner cartridge) breaks even compared to this machine right about the time the starter toner cartridge runs out....and mine has (wired) networking and auto duplexing. If lowest initial cost is your goal, or you make very few prints, or space is at a premium, then this looks like a great starter printer -- but if you're looking for cheapest printing costs, you'd probably do better with a printer that's initially more expensive.
You guys are correct I looked it up in the manual for the printer, yield is 1,200 pages per cartridge , not a hot deal at all , I'll stick w/my HL-3040CN
Have not been able to find any reviews from people who actually own one of these. The 1200 page error does not bother me. I just want an inexpensive laser printer that does not jam and prints without any faults in the printout.
The "e" model is a 220v European version, be carefull. I contacted 1sale last time and asked if it would work in the US, they quickly cancelled my order.
You are correct! CDW shows the following specs: Power Device Form Factor: Internal Frequency Required: 50/60 Hz Nominal Voltage: AC 230 V Power Consumption Operational: 250 Watt Power Consumption Stand by Sleep: 5 Watt Type: Power supply

I'm confused on electrical requirements. This link specifies 120V, yet others are quoting 230V.
Im confused also, i asked for clairification from 1sale when they had this a couple weeks ago, they cancelled my order and never answered the voltage question. I'd still order if i was sure it would work in the usa.
If you are not so sure about the voltage, you can buy from Adorama on Amazon or directly for 44.95 (Free Shipping). Paying $5 more will give you peace of mind about the voltage.
I have one of these printers since we were looking for a cheap replacement for a slowly failing and expensive to print Lexmark (spending $30/cart every 100 or so pages).
After using it now for 3 months: I have only had 1 paper jam and that was due to wife having something on top of the printer holding back the paper. We are still on the starter cartridge, and even with a lot of image heavy and dark pages printed, it only now displays low toner at 330pages. By this time with our old Lexmark, we would have spent $60-100 in just black ink jet carts. Image and print quality is on par with most other laser printers, even with its somewhat limited 1200x600dpi.
The cart has a simple cap so refilling the toner is easy... the main issue is finding the proper type since different toners for specific companies have certain formulations.
As a long time PC and Network tech, I am actually happy with a cheap priced item.
Oh and the 1200/12K mentions....
The replacement carts are for approximately 1,200 pages. The "max" number of prints PER MONTH for this printer is around 10,000. Most manufacturers add these numbers so when people or businesses try to come back on the manufacturer for the printer failing so early, the manufacturer is relieved of the liability since it is pasted all over "10,000 max pages per month duty". The printer keeps track of the number of pages printed in memory, support can access that (using the "Smart Organizing Monitor") so they can turn around and deny liability if it over that 10,000 mark.
