Is a smartphone plan much more expensive than a regular (non-smartphone) plan? Been a Verizon customer for a many years, but have an ordinary phone.

Cheapest plan I see is $40 line access for no reason at all and $50 for 1gb of data with unlimited talk and text. Plus they bill ahead of time and there is an activation fee.
