Closest model is with a Core i5 3.1GHz for $699.00. The Core i7's are much more expensive...

$100 more, so discount from $799. But yeah, not what they are putting up.

Why? With the fixed link you get what's advertized.

Does FW even bother to look at these deals before promoting them anymore?
This deal links to a page of XPS 8700's that are an i5 for $699, i7 for $949 and up
Taking $60 off of $699 does not turn an i5 into an i7.
Here's a better deal, with  an XPS 8700 with an i7 for $739.  Not the best pricing ever, but the best pricing on a XPS 8700 with i7 today...

EDIT:  Glad that you fixed the link, not glad that you wasted my time.
EDIT:  And as soon as it was fixed it was broken again,  thanks for all the red it encourages me yo keep the best deals to myself and for people that are worthy of telling.

It would make sense if you didn't quote the fixed link with i7 for $614.99

This is a very good price.  The weakness on this model is the power supply (430W) and the video card.  But unless you are  an intensive gamer or does video editing on it as a living, this unit will more than cover your needs for now and years to come.  During Black Fridays, you can always look out for deals on better graphic cards or RAM memories and upgrade them yourself for a small price.  Down the road, you can even install a SSD yourself to improve its performance.  Dell charge an arm and a leg for their SSD so I would definitely suggest you install it yourself.

I have several Dell PCs at home and recently built a gaming workstation with my son and for the features on this Dell model like the 6 USB 3.0 ports, Wireless a/b/g/n and Bluetooth v4.0 card, card reader for 19 different media like (CF Type I, CF Type II, Micro drive, mini SD, MMC, MMC mobile, MMC plus, MS, MS Pro, MS Pro Duo, MS Duo, MS Pro-HG, RS-MMC, SD, SDHC Class 2, SDHC Class 4, SDHC Class 6, SM, xD so you won't need to search for a cable to download files, pictures, videos etc.) you will be hard pressed to build it cheaper for yourself.

One thing I have always done with Dell though is that I have always bought their longest warranty (4 years) available in case something breaks down the road.  I tend to keep my pc for a very long time (6-10 years) so having that little extra security blanket is worthwhile for me personally.  Everyone should evaluate the value of the warranty to their own requirements.  With how fast technology changes, sometimes it is hard to find replacement parts after 3 years so it is nice to pass the problem to Dell and not have to worry about it.

Dead?

  • 1TB 7200RPM HDD
  • 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 635
  • Dell Wireless 1703 802.11a/b/g/n
  • 16X CD/DVD Burner
  • Windows 8.1

I thought I'd price this out on individual components, for those who are more technically inclined:
- CPU: $295 AC on NewEgg
- RAM: Cheapest comparable is $65
- HDD: Cheapest 1TB 7200 RPM drive is $60
- Graphics: Gigabyte GT-630 w/ 2GB VRAM for $50 -- don't see a 635 model -- but $80 will get you into a GT-640
- Mobo: $57 would get you a decent ASUS board w/ gigabit Ethernet (more or less comparable; didn't see Dell mobo specs)
- DVD: $20
- OS: Win 8.1 is $99 for OEM
- PSU: Corsair 80 Plus Bronze 430w for $25 AR
- Case: <didn't price>
- Wifi: <didn't price>

All that to say, you're hitting Dell's price point before adding in the OS, a case, and a wifi card.  Unless you want specific parts or you already have a case, PSU, and/or OS and want to roll the cost of the graphics card into a better one, this is a solid deal.  Plus, you get to take advantage of the Dell warranty process (instead of having to deal with multiple part vendors).  And an XPS-badged machine should be more robust.

Anyone have a working link?

I don't see this deal at this link. Somebody is smoking something!

Price I get is now $639.99 AC and before any Cash Back you might opt for

  Agreed on pricing

The only downsides for gamers are:
- No SLI
- Poor ventilation

Also, you only get one year of warranty with this PC
Mos individual components will give you at least 3 years.

Also, if you have a MicroCenter nearby you can grab a i7 4770k and mobo for around $310

Dead again?
