Rebel XT price is around ~$720-750 minus $100 rebate would make this great price.. 5D is around ~2700 minus $300 rebate would be ~2400 EDIT: $2700 is just a price on sale in my head, I thought I saw that in Feb, sorry for the confusion, I don'think there's any 5D at this price at this moment.
Lens.. Canon 24-105mm IS from Dell Home $1,249.00 - 15% coupon (C31NSS784NH723 500 uses, wish it won't be gone by tomorrow YMMV) - $35 off $300 Dell coupon (eBay) = $1026.65 $1026.65 - 2% DPA - 3% FatCash - $50 Rebate = $925.94 HOT!!!! Unlucky folks pay tax...

Green for you. Finally I can get the 50mm f/1.4. From Amazon.
Why is 24-105mm f/4L so good? Is IS really helpful for 105mm zoom? $1300 seems expensive for an f/4 lens. My 17-40mm f/4L + 70-200mm f/4L will probably just do the same for my rebel XT. If you want IS, why not get the 70-200 f/2.8L?
Green for the OP, although I do not need any more lens since I've already owned 17-40mm f/4L, 70-200mm f/2.8L, and 24-70mm f/2.8L. Anyone can recommend me another?

There's always the 100-400mm L series glass. Just because you might need it.
I'd consider getting the 24-105mm if I could sell my 28-135mm lens.
The kit lens isn't that bad for the Digital Rebel. I have the 17-40mm L lens, the 28-135mm lens with IS ($420 or so) and the 70-300mm with IS ($550). They are all pretty good lenses. The L series glass is better, but you will pay for that.

Take pictures instead of collecting lenses.

Because it's one not-so-big lens. And 24mm will be perfect wide angle for full frame camera like 5D that people might upgrade in the future. 17-40mm + 70-200mm/4 is also a good choice though.
I just bought this with the standard lens and the 70-200 f4. What case do I need and should I just sell the gimme lens? Thanks, also best card, cf or sd.
dreamlogic said: thanks op, just picked up a 85 f/1.8excellent choice! this is my most used lens. i'm shooting mostly indoor volleyball and basketball w/o a flash. all the other parents complain that their shots don't come out. they're shooting with zooms with larger apertures (3.5 or larger.)
regarding the kit lens: i was gonna sell my kit lens because i bought the canon 17-40 & 50mm prime, but the kit lens is a lot smaller and lighter. i decided to keep the kit lens and use it when i don't want to carry a larger lens or camera bag.

Though it's nice to brag and have everyone know how kiasu you are, you could add this to your collection:
It's good. Theorectically there should be a reduction of sharpness in some degree with an extender, but I do not feel any appreciable loss in sharpness from using the 1.4X extender. I use it a lot with my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L.

How do you like it? Hows the quality? Ive heard bad things about teleconverters.

I'm hoping this will be a lot better than the stock lens that came with my Rebel 300D. Do you think my older camera will do this lens justice? Is it worth upgrading to the Rebel XT or a 20D?

MSRP of about $1150 seems kinda of expensive for a non L lens since the IS is prolly not needed at the shorter end. Having the 17mm wide angle helps because of the 1.6X cropping factor but I think I'll keep my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens which can be had about $330.

Dell EPP has the Canon EOS 5D for $3,299...way too much.
Where is the best deal on the EOS 5D where the $300 Canon rebate would apply? I assume it needs to be from a Canon authorized dealer?
This lens is a hit/miss. With Dell's excellent return and exchange policy, I'll take my chance. Good luck everyone who'll purchase the 24-105L or 24-70L.

I thank you OP! (but my bank account doesn't)

Coupon still available is only becuase Dell set their regular price so high. After 15% off, it is still not comparable with other reputable online retailer's price. Not so excited. It would be nice if there is 25% off.

Amazon sells EOS 5D for $2969 and NO tax in many states, $45 less if you have A9 rewards.

Lens.. Canon 70-200mm IS from Dell Home $1,959.00 - 15% coupon - $35 off $300 Dell coupon (eBay) = $1630.00 $1630 - ($32.6)2% DPA - ($48.90)3% FatCash - $50 Rebate + $120.xx tax = $1625
Places like B&H has this for $1700 + S/H. So saving of about $100 I am estimating.

The XT price is really high there compared now to Amazon and a few other places. Dell has that 10 days of savings or whatever its called. Apr 7 is digital camera day. Ive got to wonder if thats going to be a dud or a killer deal with this coupon on the XT.

FYI: B&H has a special price of $1599 + s/h (~$18) - $50 rebate + 0 tax (assuming outside of NY) = $1567
If it's not posted already, they've had a 'specials' code of PSMAR which still works

The 135L, 85L, and 35L are super sharp and have amazing Bokeh.
