First thing that leaped out at me was the statement in their offer on the terms and conditions page, under eligibility
"2. Program participant must hold legal title to the trade-in product(s), free of liens or security interests, and have the legal right to transfer the trade-in product(s) to Sony’s program administrator. You must have proof of purchase of the trade-in product(s). Title to the trade-in product(s) transfers to Sony’s program administrator on the date and time the trade-in product(s) is received by the program administrator."
Five bucks says everyone who submits this that doesnt meet each element of eligibility gets a "sorry, charlie" letter...

My friend sent in a Pentium 233 and they said no problem. I think they are happy that they are getting people into a SONY. In the reply to him, they said as long as it powers up and isn't broken, they will take it. |

I stopped in after class to see if they still have some left. They said that they sold a decent amount of them, but just received another shipment in today.
And my trade-in just got picked up by Fed-Ex. I'll miss her... |

i've got you both beat! P150. We'll see if it works. Got a COA from an old Dell desktop and found an old Win98 upgrade CD. All emails from sony say ok! I'll print out and include.
Do you guys recommend using the box that the sony came in? |

Wow, a P150. Sure you don't need a desktop box for that monster? I did use the box the SONY came in. I cut off all the labels from it and packed it up. Worked perfectly. |

anyone know if the battery has to work?
i've got an old lappy that only works when pluged into charger.
also, seems kind crappy, they don't even tell you if your laptop qualifies. for all we know we ship it to them and they say "oh, doesn't qualify" and they keep our old lappy? |

I believe they said that it has to be able to boot off the battery power. If not, then they will deduct $25 from the rebate amount.
Email Sony for a confirmation to this. |

I was reading the terms and did not see anything about returns of laptop if they do not accept it. Can anyone verify? |

I think they said that you would have to pay return shipping or a disposal fee if it did not meet description. |

It only allows for one battery. The spare that they are selling fits in the place of the standard battery. The battery is long and slim. |

In their website, it says "All sales final. Defective products will be exchanged within 10 business days." Is this laptop a brand new or refurbished?
If you guys got this laptop already, please let us know what condition it has. |

Let's see if this actually happens...
LIFEBOOK 435DX <font color=white style="background-color: #3E3E3E;">P133 Processor P 133Mhz, Memory (per MB) 16, Storage (per GB) 1.3, Media 1 10X CD-ROM, Media 2 None, Floppy 1.4, NIC None, Modem None, O/S Win 95, Display 12.1" DSTN passive matrix, Case None, Xtra Batt None(Your Trade-In) 1 Good $ 300.00 Included $ 300.00
Wish me luck!
On second thought, google the original model number and you'll find the Buffalo website (should be second result). It says "All sales final, defects exchanged within 10 days". That would seem like a refurb to me?? Still a great deal, but I'm a little nervous about refurbs for Christmas gifts. I know that many refurbs are cosmetically fine and returned for "other" reasons.. but one bad --big-- purchase and I'll be grounded from refurbs forever.

I did this deal in March and I did the Buy.com deal again just recently. I sent in a Dell xpi with a 75 Mhz processor in poor condition, broken hinge on one side. I sent in a Dell manual and a COA from Windows 3.1. I received my $500 check after about 8 weeks after I call to inquire about it. |

Most people tend to jump on the things like the $499 Toshiba dual core with burner. It costs more money, but less risk and arguably a better laptop.
What is this $499 Toshiba you are mentioning?? One of the Best Buy deals lately or did I miss something. |

I'm pretty sure they are new, since I don't think the rebate is available for refurbished machines. |

The spec of this BX561B at Buy.com and sony website is misleading. The laptop has a 15.4" WXGA (1280x800) screen, not 1400x1050 SXGA+! |
