residue said:In their website, it says "All sales final. Defective products will be exchanged within 10 business days." Is this laptop a brand new or refurbished?
If you guys got this laptop already, please let us know what condition it has.
I got one the other day. They are brand new. They had a pile of them at the store and they all had the original seal.
I talked to a salesperson there about the all sales final policy. The reason they put that is because they had a few people ask if they could return the laptop after 8 weeks if they get denied for the rebate I ask, what company would actually do that. Just make sure you meet all the requirements for the trade up. Duh. |

Thaks, OP I have a Dell inspiron 5100 with P4 2.4 G CPU (it's almost 3 year old). But this laptop always shuts down by itself because of overheating. So I am gonna trade in this one.

Was searching for a battery for this Dell, which I was getting for about $130. Now I get a new laptop for $300 instead : Sweeet!(250+shipping+non-functional battery surcharge) |

With this trade-in program, it must be available at some other schools or stores as well?
Anyone see this offer anywhere else? |

It's hard to debate a $250 AR laptop while "recycling" your old one that you would let sit and collect dust in a corner.
2 week review. I really do like this laptop a lot. One thing that I did buy based on recommendation from UBmicro employee is a Targus Chill Mat. It's the USB pad with fans built in to it. It makes a huge difference on the temperature of the base of the laptop and the laptop seems ot run better. The pad works with any USB laptop, even my Apple PowerBook |

My friend traded his in to Sony. It was not on the list. He emailed then and they gave him approval on his model. They replied to him in 3 hours. |

Thanks. I send them a mail and they replied back within 2 hours. This is the reply I got.
"Thank you for your interest in the Sony Tradeup & Go Pro 2 Notebook Upgrade Promotion
If your model is not on the list, simply select the correct manufacturer and choose any model. The next page will ask you to accept or modify the configurations of the model you have chosen. If the specifications of the model chosen are not the same as yours, select "modify configuration" and modify as needed." I am placing my order first thing in the morning.

Good luck with the sony battery. It is better to stay away when Apple and Dell are doing the exact something. |

Show me a laptop that doesn't get hot that has been made in the past 2 years. The cooling pad works great with my laptops cooling them down and the Sony battery hasn't been recalled. |

Actually we have several Sony Vaio VGN-FS742/Ws and VGN-FE690PBs at the office that stay on 14+ hours a day and they barely get warm letalone hot. This is because unlike most laptops Sony does not use the case as additional heatsinking for the processor and they vent heat out the BOTH sides of the laptop instead of the bottom like most others including crappy Dells. I started carrying a VGN-FE690PB on my road trips and in terms of case heat it is a world of difference compared to the Toshiba I was carrying a few months ago. |

I checked my Sony, it has venting on the left side of the laptop. It only really gets warm towards the front right corner of it. But with the cooling pad, I don't have any heat issues. |

Is speedstep working? You can download cpuz program to see the actual cpu running speed. The PM740 in my HP laptop only runs at 800MHz most of the time. |

Run your laptop at full capacity and wrap it in a blanket on your couch. I'm sure that will do the trick
I'm sure a lot of these incidents that have been reported could have been prevented. Some people just get sue-happy. |

I think the battery gimmick is related to terrorist threat. They found that some people could take a laptop on board and can make it explode and that is the issue not Sony Battery leak.
We have some extremely sharp people on this board should be able to see. 4 Million batteries bad, are they a morons in Sony QA that they will not detect?, Highly questionable assumption. What about Laptops made in China where quality control is on mass production not on quality production? |
