The UB Micro store is out of these laptops and is saying that they will ship by late next week. So if they don't ship before Aug 31 2006 then the deal will be in trouble. I was told that the SONY website will reflect a new date keeping in mind this delay of about a week but have not seen any official comment until now. Let's see what happens now

I also called UB Micro and the girl working was very helpful. She stated that they had already confirmed it with SOny that the promotion would be extended/renewed for another 2 months. She said that this was consistent with what Sony had been doing with this promotion. She clearly confirmed that a rebate would not be in jeapordy. Also, the one I ordered a few days ago had already shipped, so I'm assuming the first batch is OK anyway.

Can we purchase these from any vendor and still be eligible?

Does anyone have another source for these laptops at this price? All I find is these things going for $900+ elsewhere. Which leads me to the question, why are the UB Micro ones so cheap?

Got the OOS e-mail also. Hope we dont land in a soup with Sony on the dates of purchase because of their delay. And from what I see, the BX series is being cleared by Sony. So dont expect to see them sold at lots of places.

What did they say in the OOS email? In my email, they said OOS now, but will be back in stock next tuesday. Mine will be shipped next Tuesday. I just checked my credit card and found I was charged for this laptop already.

I'm not sure I understand why you got an email as opposed to someone not calling or telling you they were OOS when you placed the order. Did the email mention any ship or avilability date?

fax. no call received. email says will be in stock in the next 3-5 days!

When I stopped in they said that they were selling out quick. They are in the middle of their back to school rush since school is starting this week, so I'm sure they won't have the time to call everyone, so thats why they are sending out emails. It was a madhouse over there yesterday.

I'm seeing a lot of BX540s on campus already.

I have noticed that the used Dell laptops on eBay have gone up in price lately. FatWallet effect?

Looks like a working one would be $100 or so. Does say in the Sony's conditions though that a non working battery only costs $25 off the rebate.

So $749 for the laptop. Possibly a eBay laptop for $100 -125 cost
$349 - $375 after trading in an eBay laptop is still ahead of the game.

I called TWICE this morning and both times they said they had "units in stock". So, I go ahead and fax in my order and get this email shortly thereafter...
We have received your Sony order. Order Confirmation #xxxxxx

Currently we are out of stock on the unit and expect our next shipment
in within 3-5 business days. At that time we will ship your unit out
to you with your receipt.

If you are planning on utilizing the Sony Trade up and Go program, your
receipt will be dated in time to qualify for the program. In the
meantime you can go to www.ubmicro.buffalo.edu, click on the Sony link
and begin your trade up process. You will receive an email from Sony
with futher instructions.

Well, at least they say they'll make sure the receipt complies with the trade up program...

Found the same machine at San Fransisco State U for $779 (shipping is a little cheaper). I haven't read the details so I'm not sure if you need to be a student or not to get one. I don't think you do though. Obviously not as good a deal as UB Micro, but SFSU may have some in stock and you can order online and get your receipt immediately...

Still not as good of a deal as UBMicro.
$749 + $20 shipping = $769 still $10 cheaper than SFBookstore's price

I don't believe there is a limit to how many times you can do this deal. Please correct me if I am wrong. Ie one to one trade of Dell for sony.

Anyone else getting a system error when trying the link for information from the SONY website?
