If you call HSBC, no one knows anything of this card. There is no mention of it on the HSBC website. Card member services is 888-385-8916. I've spent an hour trying to get a human being to answer questions about the rewards, but again no one seems to know anything about it.

If you read the terms from directrewardscard.com, the way it reads is that you cannot request a rewards check. It is a check that is mailed out on the annual account anniversary date.

Of course, this assumes the card is not a phising scam. I am not comfortable that HSBC has no link to this on their site and that no customer service rep can explain, let alone find, any details about how it works.

If you search google on directrewardscard you will see that this is advertised all over. This would have to be a verrrry elaborate scam, and also there is no buzz about phishing(except here). Myself, I think its legit.

It is legit, as far as I can tell by looking at the inquiry on my credit report. It's definitely HSBC, and this seems to be their prime division.

Way to go, Fat Wallet, you did it again!

Edit: here's the EQF info:
HSBC BANK NV FKA DMCCB
17600 N. PERIMETER DR. STE.100
180007121 (167)
SCOTTSDALE, AZ 85255

To me, it doesn't look like a scam...

What a joke. (FICO in the 730-770 range, 60k income, no lates)

wont be the first time CSRs dont know anything..I got a credit pull on equifax from HSBC for this card, also...

As posted earlier, the customer service number on the back of the card is 800-379-7999.

It is not a scam ... I have had an account for about 3 weeks and yes I applied at the link the OP has posted.

Oh and yes the card really is as ugly as the picture on the website.

They gave me 11k credit line

You need special one-time code to apply.

Probably test-marketing this card.

me too. i responded to the targeted mail offer for "HSBC Cash Back Platinum MC" (mine doesn't say rewards though) in july and received email verification within a couple of days (they got my email address from an on-line banking that i started a few months ago). i got approved the following day and received the card within 1 week. no annual fee. credit line $15K which is more than i want. their # on back of card is 888-385-8916.

my son also received a mail offer from HSBC on that very same day, but his was straight 1% on anything, unlimited CashBack amount. he does not have any HSBC bank account.

www.accountcentralonline.com is the official website for the Direct Rewards card. (I think Direct Merchants was part of the Household buyout that HSBC did some time back.)

www.hsbccreditcard.com is for the HSBC branded cards only. (I know since I have an HSBC card as well.)

I applied and got one. It told me to use accountcentralonline for online access to the account.
Anybody got their first statement yet? Does it say anything about rewards? Any surprises?

I just applied for this card, and got denied, and it pointed me toward other HSBC cards which might be "right" for me. I just pulled my FICO last night, was 749, wonder why I got denied

I'm curious about that myself. I wonder if the people who were approved and denied could provide some data points?

Edited:

For S&G, I went through the thread to find what I could based on previous posts and it looks like there definitely needs to be more info to try to figure out what they're looking for. It doesn't seem to be FICO only (or some people estimated theirs wrong or looked at the wrong report).

700 FICO - denied
725+ FICO - inst. approval for $4K
~760 FICO - inst. approval for $15K
mid 700 FICO - inst. approval for ?
730 FICO - denied
<700 FICO - denied
730-770 FICO - denied
749 FICO - denied

I just noted the ones that stated a FICO score.

alert mods

Well, I only pulled it from one agency (TransUnion), the application did manage to lower my score 3 points though My current cards rewards are ~.98% when used on cash value, and was trying to get a 5% card, now that Chase and Citi seem to be gone this seemed to be the best bet...

I have maxed out my rewards on my Chase card so just applied for this card. on the first try I got to the screen where they ask the questions to confirm your identity then something happened to Internet connection and I went off line. So I went back and started application again, this time I did not even make it to the identity page before being denied. Wondering if the first one did go thru and that's why I was denied? My 3 real FICO's thru MyFico range from a low of 809 to high of 828. Also I have over $100k in HSBC. If for some reason I was denied I will not be a happy camper and will be making substantial withdrawal

Well, keep us updated on what happens because that would really be an indicator that they are looking for something other than just FICO scores if you get denied.

Well,
Guess will enjoy this card until they change their mind. Got approved.
Keep Dividend strictly for utilities.
