Yes, you can use the 98se disk. On a clean install, XP should prompt you to insert the old media before proceeding. However, my guess is that you would need more new parts than just a motherboard & cpu if you plan to upgrade that system. Doubt if your old heatsink/fan is usable in something newer. SDRAM is no longer used either. Also PCI-Express is the video standard, so your old AGP card will not work although you could instead select a board with an AGP slot or even use integrated video. Plus, my guess is that your old power supply is will not be sufficient either. One thing that could also be an issue is if the Gateway uses a proprietary motherboard and/or case. If that is true, then swapping motherboard will be difficult, if not impossible.

Not good on tech items (including software). However, it could be useful at Staples since the fine print is way too small for anyone other than OD to notice that restriction.

BTW I just happened to notice that OD had rebates on this for $60 and $70 the past couple of weeks. Obviously coupons don't work anymore but $30 AR is still is not a bad deal. I never saw them posted here.

Finally receive my check today also. Had to talk to them several times, faxed it to them 4 times, mailed it also and filed a complaint with the BBB before they approved it.

BAD rebate company.

Well lookie lookie, another whole month and still no check.

I finally got notice today that mmy check will be mailed in 2-3 weeks!!They say the postmark date was 10-19 which is total BS,it was 9-19 but either way taking this long is a complete joke.
The funny thing was I got fed up with them and their OOS promos in October.I haven't gotten anything from OD in 4 months now and unless they are giving away free computers and doing deliveries by the Hooters Girls I never will again.
I even passed up on the last batch of free CD's they had and I was right next door at the doctor with my Dad.

I had to do the call-in thing and went round and round with them on the phone and through emails back in Nov. The CSR eventually created a new tracking number because they said the original was screwed up and that's why it was rejected. I finally got my check on Jan 3rd.

Then last Friday I got an email saying that they had just mailed a check on 2/16, and referenced the ORIGINAL tracking number!

ETA -- Got the check today! Morons.
