I don't think BF will have anything better without rebates involved. Unless, WalMart decides to create another stampede.

i used AVIA to tweak the colors

it is not only that the strong cyan and magenta appear funky; these color also shows a lot of bleeding.

easiest way to see this is wait for an AT&T commercial to come on. Their logo is light blue in regular TVs but on this LCD it will be a flourescent blue and the blue bleeds like crazy so you can't really make out the feature of the logo

i think the LCD is crap

Not to mention that at 37" You can't tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p anyway.

The same people keep saying the same nonsense thinking they're a big shot.

There is no way to tell the difference between 1080i vs 1080p for TV viewing, because there is no 1080p broadcast signal. However, you can definitely tell the difference between 1080i vs 720p. If you watch sports on HD (fox/abc vs cbs/nbc), you would know that 720p signal is by far more pleasureable to the eyes. with 720p, the picture is smooth, with 1080i, the picture looks pixelated with fast moving action/camera panning (observed with lcd, plasma, rear projection technologies). Of course there is no proof that 1080p sports broadcasting will be better than 1080i, but common sense would tell you that it will be (if the networks will upgrade their cameras). BTW, of all the HD networks, NBC is the worst in term of picture clarity and resolution, even the cash poor UPN/CW network is better.

The 1080p feature will future proof you for the next 3-5 years for the coming of HD-DVD/Blue ray. Past that time frame, there will be some other technology(s) that will be more attractive.

People please go out and buy this instead of waiting around for BF, so that lesser mortals like me can score on BF!!!

Looks like the HD-3701P is made by Proton:

HD-3701P UL certification

It looks very similar to this Proton:

37" Puriti™ HD LCD TV

So far there are about 100 titles shipping on blu-ray disks. Of those, many of them where shot 720 or 1080I anyway. There are very, very few true 1080P disks and there will be no 1080p broadcasts for a long, long time. (the broadcast standard doesn't even exist)

Meanwhile on every HDTV deal for the last 2 years some goober (who's probably watching his mom's 10 year old Zenith because he still lives with her) declares that it offends his well trained eyes because it's not 1080P and nothing else will do... pssshft

And as for using it as a monitor, if you want a 37" inch monitor that only has 1080 lines, your user name better be Mr. Magoo.
I'm streaming via an HDMI cable extension from my computer for Beyond TV PDR capabilities, where there is an appreciable difference between 1080i and 1080p, and at that, 1080 lines from my computer looks great.

And I'm not Mr. Magoo.

I bought one of these in april 06. I heard about the speaker problem but it was a great deal at $999 at the time. I used the Thx section from the star wars dvd to set up the brightness/contrast/color etc. I also had to lower the "backlight" setting to 10%. I'm no expert but I am picky about picture quality (to my eyes anyway), but my dvds looked amazing through my dvd player's progressive component output. I dont have any hd content so couldnt test it. Standard def tv looked OK.

About the sound: The sound coming through the attached speakers constantly fluctuates in volume and is VERY annoying. However, I removed the speakers (4 phillips head screws each speaker- easy) and disabled speaker output (in menu), and there is no problem with the rca audio output jacks. I just use my sound system for audio and its great. If you plan to use the tv as-is, I wouldn't recommend this tv, though you could easily hook up the attacked speakers to your personal stereo receiver if you wanted.

My experience: My first tv broke in 1 week. Suddenly all the colors turned into a kaliedescope and waves of rainbow colors washed over the picture (hard to describe). I called outpost(after reattaching the speakers), and they sent me another tv and scheduled DHL to come pickup my broken tv (SAVE THE BOX/packaging - they require it for return). Friendly customer service btw...

Received new TV, performed same setup. Same audio problem w/speakers but rca audio jacks are fine. 6 months later, everything is great!

Also, there are no 1080p broadcasts (in the USA), and there never will be. Why? Because the bandwidth allocated for HDTV is only enough for 1080i. 1080p will be an acquisition and hard content format, but you will never see a 1080p feed for the remaining 50 year run of the HDTV format.

I wish everyone who posted this nonsense would tell the rest of us where this undiscovered treasure trove of 1080p content is.

CBS (1080i)
ESPNHD (720p)
ESPN2HD (720p)
FOX (720p)
NBC (1080i)
MSG (1080i)
Altitude (1080i)
INHD (1080i)
HDNet (1080i)
FSN BA (1080i)
FSN AZ (720p)
Discovery HD (1080i)
ABC (720p)
DirecTV 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i
Dish 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i.

It's almost impossible to find 1080P content and the people who do have it are usually ripping it off from the networks after a sporting event is well in the can.

Not to mention that at 37" You can't tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p anyway.

The same people keep saying the same nonsense thinking they're a big shot.

Where would I find 1080p content? Hmm lets see...

PS3 Games...
Future Xbox360 HD games...

But of course, this depends on what you want to use your HD display for. For me, and I am assuming for many people who want a next generation console [Wii excluded], 1080p resolution would be an important factor to consider.

I am typing this message on the 37 monitor now,

the VGA input only supports up to 1024X768, but if your display card has DVI or HDMI output, you can pretty much display it at any resoulation of your choice.

quaility is amazing,

I paid 1000 plus tax for it

so does this already have an HDTV tuner built in? or is it just HDTV ready? if its built in, its a pretty good price.

Just a dumb question, Do you use this as a main TV in living room or as 2nd TV in Bed room?

The reason for this question is that I am planning to buy one TV for bed room and I dont have any idea on whether this is bigger for a medium size bed room.

The TV doesn't get bigger in a bedroom vs a living room.

Are you asking if this is too big for a medium sized bedroom? If so you need to give the dimensions of the room.

so, your vidcard only has vga at the moment or have you upped the resolution past the vga limited 1024x768?

if you are limited by your vidcard for the time being at 1024x768 how does it look at this setting? if you have it connected via dvi/hdmi what resolution do you have it set at and how does it look?

What???? either you were drunk when you typed that or you were trying to yank people's dongs. Are you saying that your monitor has infinite resolution? Then what is the point of having pixel specs for display devices when all you need is a video card?

According to your info, people should just buy a $500 video card and turn their 19" CRT TV into a super duper extreme high def display interface.

Folks, you can't go past the physical limitation of the device. If you do set your video card resolution beyond the TV's specs, the image would either spaz or you can only see an 'area' of your desk top that fits that screen's resolution. Or, if you are connect through a DVI connection, your video card would not even allow you to select higher rez than your monitor can support. Through the VGA connection, your monitor will likely reject the setting and revert back to the old setting or it will display a black screen. Try it on your computer monitor.
