Saw this MIO C310x GPS advertised DFW's Sunday Frys ad for $329.99. Circuit City has it for $379.99. If you've got a Frys locally you should be able to PM easily and if you've got the $40 off $199 should be a smooth deal.

If you don't have the coupon, you can purchase off of eBay, or try printing and using the one posted in the Acer desktop thread Linky to coupon- this is YMMV as it's not the orignal flyer. Alternatively, I believe this coupon is from the USPS moving packets, so you might be able to obtain one there.

Feedback from current/prior owners of this GPS are appreciated, as real reviews seem to be few/nonexistant. Reviews on CC's site are mostly postitive however.

Cheapest price froogle found from "reputable" dealers online was $395.44 (besides CC's price).

Review of MIO C310

There are much easier way to hack your MIO without any additional software (using the 2-button unlock method). More info in in this forum.

Hack your c310x to have full access to Windows CE - Including MP4 Movie Playback, Winamp, and MS ActiveSync - compliments of stroths
1. Instructions - The directions are for the 510/710, but it works just the same on the 310 providing you use the CD method rather than the bluetooth (310 has no bluetooth)
2. Download Unlock-C510-Mioskins.zip

Here are some screenshots from my modded c310x
- MP4 Video Playback via TCPMP (It does full screen as well)
- Start Menu - You can start the default MP3 player, the Mapping software as well as other apps here
- System Info App
- Windows CE .Net 4.2 Desktop - This is what it boots to after the mod

EDIT: Download TCPMP .81 Beta RC1 - This is the last version before they started charging. The AAC plugin is included. This will run along side .72 and previous versions. If you don't want both, you will have to uninstall the old version as this installs in a new directory.

EDIT 2: Add a Desktop Shortcut to the Start Button - Useful in conjuction with the Autohide Taskbar function
I have my CE taskbar set to autohide. Unless I use a stylus, I cannot click my start button because my finger is too big. Here is my workaround, which you all might find useful. I created an icon on my CE desktop that pops up the start button when I double click the icon. Here's how I did it:

1. Download a program called VJKeyPress from http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJKeyPress
2. Install the cab on your Mio
3. Download winkey.lnk from http://rapidshare.com/files/5120040/WinKey.lnk.html
4. Copy the winkey.lnk to your Mio in \windows\desktop

The winkey.lnk is just a link I created that points to \Program Files\VJKeyPressVJKeyPress.exe" 91. The 91 signifies the Start Button. If you are so inclined, you can read the details on the VJKeyPress download page for other things you can make it do. You just have to change the "91" to a different number for the other functions.

EDIT 3: Mio Shell Replacement
http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=72525
This is a very nice looking shell replacement that works on the Mio

How to add a voice language using MioTransfer Hack.

1. Download Mio Transfer Hack.
2. Unzip the only file, "Mio Transfer Hack.exe" to your MioDigiWalker program directory.
3. Backup the current "Mio Transfer.exe" in a different folder.
4. Rename "Mio Transfer Hack.exe" to "Mio Transfer.exe". You don't need the quotations.
5. Open "Mio Transfer.exe" and it'll be a different interface from the one you installed on the disk. Don't unzip it.
6. Download the Language Pack you want here to your desktop.
7. Go back to Mio Transfer and click on the Flash icon and it should show you all the folders in your GPS.
8. Navigate to \My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap\voice\ and transfer the language file in it's .zip format.

With this method, you don't have to unlock your MIO to add a language voice. Hope this helps. Credit goes stroths for all the information posted by him.

Easy POI Editor

http://inetcom.hu/mick/igo/iGOPOIExplorerBeta.zip

1. Got active sync working from above
2. Copied iGO.db from C310 to PC.
3. Ran iGO POI Explorer and imported iGO.db
4. Imported the .KML file into iGO.db
5. Exported the updated iGO.db to PC.
6. Copied iGO.db back to the C310

This software also has an experimental sync mode that directly changes the igo.db You will need to be out of the gps software (i.e. at the ce page or the main page to be able to manipulate the db)

Install Canada map on SD card (courtesy heydin)

In order to add the Canada map it is not necessary to unlock the unit.

Download Canada.fbl map file from Here

Install the Canada.fbl file on an SD card under the following directory structure:
miomap/maps/canada.fbl

You may have to reboot the C310x but afterwards the Canada data will be available.

If you have further questions about this unit, we can all discuss over there, or this thread will become a c310x tech. thread.

Additional Customizations
GPSPassion Forum Post Look about 2/3rd of the way down, post by MoonBear. Full credit to MoonBear on this.

Use the Mio Transfer hack to navigate to \My Flash Disk\MioMap\MioMap and replace the data.zip on your Mio with this data.zip (do not unzip it, just load the whole zip file as is). I'd suggest that you both copy the original data.zip off the Mio and save it to your PC as well as renaming it and leaving it on the Mio before you copy the new one in.

From MoonBear @ gpspassion.com

I've uploaded my personalized version of Data.zip all to share with everyone. This will of course take away all the fun out of modifying scripts by yourself.

It's in English.

What's changed:

The flash background is changed to one of my favorite cars, although what I want is the American model made by Lexus.

Tracklog Export / Options
Main Menu Exit button
More Display Options (including more coordinate formats)
More Route Options (including High Speed Fly Over)
Route Parameter (EASY route)

These changes are tailered to my own taste. Further customization is up to you

How to report map problem to TeleAtlas so they can update next version of map

Very good information at the following link(Wiki)

You can get a free Image Viewer, Resource Meter, Pocket Paint, and Squares (game) with some other less useful stuff - download from Microsoft below. Just Run the installer and when you synch it up (with activesync) it will prompt you to install the apps (you don't need to install them all). I would suggest installing them on your SD card unless you have the 2 GB version.

Any reviews on this? I was thinking of buying the Teleserve.

alert mods

Not too promising, CU rated it at 14 of 15 tested.

The Magellan 760 got high ratings, and has been on sale for $299 (sale over now, but it pops up from time to time). The Garmin Nuvi 350 was also top rated, but too pricey for me.

What is CU?

alert mods

CU is the publisher or ConsumerReports.org

Oh, in that case, this isn't the model listed in the CR review- that was the Mio 269 (as your quoted rated 14 out of 15)...which doesn't resemble this unit in the slightest and is old and discontinued.

The C310x is apparently a "revised" GPS, as Mio had a C310 previously (which apparently was a stripped down version - No BT, No Traffic services- of their top end unit, the C710. I believe the difference between the C310 and the C310x from what I've found is the C310 used destinator, and the C310x uses iGo.

I found a mention of the original C310 on Cnet, which also contains a link to the more in depth review of the C710 to which it is compared to.

I got mine, price match to fry's and 10% off coupon from eBay worked fine. Thanks OP!

Excellent quality and the software beats hands down my PocketPC with mapopolis. Accurate positioning and fast acquisition of the satellites. Seems like you can customize the look as well (http://www.gpspassion.com/fr/news.asp?id=715). Seems like Mio is a very popular brand overseas and the iGo software have been a huge hit in Europe. Design wise is very attractive too and compact.

I talked to the manufacturer representative yesterday and the maps should be updated soon, iGo is working on Canada and other in the western hemisphere might follow soon after that.

BTW, Fry's sale ends today if you are going to try the pricematch!

I was just in CC the other day looking at this unit and the sales guy said it was crap! The floor model looked really screwed around with, I couldn't figure it out at all.

alert mods

LOL, got stuck working late the last two nights, and missed out on my own deal!

I've seen Frys advertise this in the past, however- so it looks like I'll be waiting a bit longer.

BFads.net is reporting that this unit will be a doorbuster at CC for $149.99.

I think I'll go pick one up today and do a return rebuy on BF.

Actually, I'll wait until tomorrow as there is a 14 day return policy on GPS at CC.

Love this review on Newegg for the 310:

Pros: I've been looking for a GPS like this for a while, but this is the only one out there without the flipping antenna...and it's small, I can put it in my pocket. I can take this everywhere. My friend has a Magellen...that thing is just too bulky. It is so easy to use...everything is self explanatory. With the MIO, I can pretty go anywhere without getting lost.

Cons: It's a bit too light. The alphabets on the screen is in alphabetical order...so it does not have the regular keyboard layout.

Other Thoughts: I was running out of gas one time in San Francisco and the MIO helped me find a gas station less than a mile away. I didn't have to drive around looking for a gas station. I also use it to drop off all my drunk friends too...because they were either passed-out or too intoxicated to give me directions.

Anyone know if this unit has text-to-speech? Wondering if this unit is better than the teletype unit that's got the long, long thread on SDeals.

alert mods

I just love mine. No text to speech in this unit just "Prepare to turn right in 1/2 mile" "Turn right now" besides that the unit is top notch. I like it better than an i5 that my wife has. Comes preloaded with all US including Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. It has 1GB of space available of internal storage for more maps or MP3s/pictures and the SD card slot. Automatic Night mode works great, glare hasn't been a problem (which is in my experience with the Garmins). Fast satellite acquisition and fast re-routing. Routes are almost always the best route I would have picked myself.

Here is a review of the beta of the iGo software for PocketPC which is similar to the software running in this unit.

At $149 on BF is red hot! I am going back then and PMing again since I should be covered by the 30 day price guarantee.

No text to speech is a deal breaker for me. I also took a look at some magellan units tonight, man do they suck!

Is CC BF like Bestbuy? I hear BB usually changes the SKU on all the sale or hot items.

Manny-

You're actually better off buying another unit now; I don't think CC will PM the BF $50 MIR, however they have a $50 MIR out NOW (good for purchase 11/09 thru 11/11) so all you'd be PM'ng would be the actual purchase price difference. They can't invalidate your MIR (which CC has been known to do after PM's) since one would be offered at the BF price as well.

If I were you, I'd go buy another unit, then return that unit with your ORIGINAL receipt; Then you qualify for the new $50 MIR, and will be able to get the same BF price after PM. Should come out to $137.99 after CC's 110% PM and MIR.

I'm unsure why glassvial would say it's YMMV on the PM; CC's policy states they'll gladly pm 110% of the difference against their own sale prices:

Price Guarantee
If you've seen a lower advertised price from another local store with the same item in stock, we want to know about it. Bring it to our attention, and we'll gladly beat their price by 10% of the difference. If you see a lower advertised price (including our own sale prices) within 30 days of your purchase, we'll refund 110% of the difference.

Our policy applies only to advertised prices. It does not apply to special offers or promotions, including rebates, free-with-purchase offers and special financing.
