LexTalionis said:bkenobi69 said:Just FYI, but the kit lens with the XTi has plastic lenses (from what I understand). This will produce lower quality pictures than a good glass lens, so when I finally do get this camera, I will opt for the body only. I already have a few really nice Cannon lenses, so this would be a downgrade for me. But, if I didn't have any lenses to start, I would either get the body only and buy a good lens or 2, or perhaps sell the kit lens if I went that route.
In the end, they are your pictures so only you can determine how important the quality of the memroy is...
Plastic? Really? No, really? You've got to be kidding? I can understand that it's a mediocor lens and the number of elements and construction my be sub par, but I would think the lens is still glass.

The lens is glass, the construction is plastic. |

Rebel XTi for $675
If you are looking for p&s with faster shutter speed with decent low light at good price, and more control than your regular p&s, K110D should be good.
Thing about SRL is that once you start getting into it, it can get little addictive and want more and more... Better lens, external flash, more lens, better body (30D), more and better lens ......
Buying Canon will give option to expand your equipments to higher ends stuffs, probably start with 50mm, maybe tamron, and the L series, external flash.... and when this is done... you will want to better body 30D or something. At this point at least all your equipment will be compatible with 30D ( or 40D in future)
At the end the picture will shine when you capture that right moment. oh and some photoshop skills helps lot.

I'm having the same dilemma. One of the reasons I haven't pulled the trigger on the Pentax is its lack of image stablization control. But the Rebel doesn't seem to have this either--is this correct? I will only be using the kit lens, so I won't be adding ISC there. The thing that frustrates me to no end with my current Canon SD600 is that my kids are in constant motion and I can never get a crisp shot of them.
But I know Canon's reputation is stellar, so I'm stuck on the fence: is the Canon $300 better than the Pentax for a soccer mom who just wants decent shots of her kids?
well for a good cam with image stabilizer check panasonic they got really great cams nice design and wonderful pictures good reviews... if you cant take photos of your kids well try video clips or let them watch a movie and then take a shot or somethin |

I was just in the process of going to Costco and getting this camera regardless of price (to take advantage of Costco's longer return policy), but I couldn't resist this deal when I saw it posted. Hurray for checking Fatwallet just before buying! |

Image stableizaion (IS) works for camera shake (your hands shaking) it does not help with the subject motion. However, the much faster autofocus and lower shutter lag will help with that. If you are only going to go with a kit lens and not add other lenses a better bet would be the canon s3 or panasonic F series, they have IS and a built in 10-12X lens. |

TY. I think my current camera's shutter lag is a big factor in the bluriness of my photos. By the time it takes the picture, my kids have moved. Also, against my better judgment I ended up buying an additional 50-200 lens to go with the Pentax K100D. We'll see how it works out. Thanks everyone for your input. |

I wouldn't wast money on a UV filter for the stock lens, but for any other better lens they are good investments to keep your lens from getting scratched.

Stollen,
Thanks for the link to the case. Do you or anyone else know if this case will hold the stock body with the stock lens? Also, just to be sure, the kit we ordered here doesn't come with a case like this right?

The camera kit does not come with a case. I ended up getting this one for about $40 when I got my 300D. It holds everything I have and I still have room for some more. |
