Got one last month. Loaded DD-WRT V23SP2. One reboot (that I've noticed) so far but stable otherwise. Anyone have any probs with Verizon DSL using DHCP? Not sure how often it's rebooted. Uptime 3 days so far.

thanks op couldn't help myself.. I already have one.. and I only need one.. but you never know when a friend needs one. And I am that happy with it that I would give it to a friend in need.

I was running the stock buffalo firmware for over a year and then switched to DD-WRT. I should have done that a long time ago. Wireless range improved greatly. The stock GUI interface was really slow and not really great. Sometimes my router would need to get reset with the stock firmware(not all the time but sometimes).
I also got another buffalo to act as a wireless bridge for my Xbox360.
1. How does the WHR-G54S compare to a v3 WRT-54G ?
2. How does Tomato Compare to DD-WRT ?
---
I've been using DD-WRT on my WRT-54g for yrs now, but I've been out of the loop for a while and this is the first I've heard of Tomato... I checked out the main site and it looks cleaner then DD-WRT... Pro's Con's ?
I've been running my little CompUSA Wireless G router for a while, so much more stable than my old DLink. I wanted to pickup a WRT54G back then, couldn't find one cheap. I just might go down and buy this one. Does anyone know, with DD-WRT on this can you change settings and change port mapping w/o rebooting? I hate that.
Thanks OP, +1 for a super-cheap DD-wrt/openWrt wireless router.

i got one last month and i'm tempted to get another one. is this a new rebate offer? are there any exclusions on this rebate if i ordered one last time?
Tomato compared to DD-WRT: More stable More efficient Better QOS Pretty bandwidth graphs Nicer interface Most settings can be changed without the router restarting Less features (though it still has way more than most people need, and a ton that dont come with stock firmware)

I have this router flashed with the latest Tomato Firmware. I have been very happy except for one thing...when I'm away from my computer for a long time, and them come back, it's like the internet connection has dropped and it won't respond (sometimes over a minute) before it's able to connect to a web site. This only happens on web browsing (http). My SMTP mail and SunRocket is always good. Once I finally connect to a web site everything is very stable. Any help or ideas why this is happening and what I can do will be very appreciated...

really doubt you'll see a difference. Either one is good. Whichever has a better set of instructions of flashing the firmware.. since that's the part that really counts. Don't want a $30 brick. (I've used dd-wrt for many months now, and it's uptime is pretty stable for me.. 110 days and counting so I'm not complaining. Tomato can probably offer the same thing, so like I said, whichever is easiest to install.)
By the way, I originally had DD-WRT, but switched to Tomato. I like the Tomato interface better. The only thing I wish Tomato had is VPN, but I also agree that the 3rd party firmware shouldn't get too bloated with features some people will never use.
Its late and I am too lazy to search. Does Tomato have Static DHCP?

ditto.... overall very impressed with this router. Much much faster than the Belkin fd router I got FAR several years back. I can stream Rhapsody, youtube, and google vid without locking up the router. I highly recommend this router. It's streaming performance is phenominal..

2 questions:
1) does tomato have the autoAP script that dd-wrt has? or a similar type interface was a auto-detect & connect wireless bridge
2) is the HP version worth $25 more, or will adjusting the transmit gains with a third party firmware be sufficient?

I've been using DD-WRT on my WRT-54g for yrs now, but I've been out of the loop for a while and this is the first I've heard of Tomato... I checked out the main site and it looks cleaner then DD-WRT... Pro's Con's ? I'll help out with my own 1st question: According to the DD-WRT wiki (Router Comparison Table) the WHR is similar to the v3 WRT with it's specs: Both have 200MHz procs (stable overclockable to 216MHz), Both have 16Mb of RAM and 4Mb of Flash... So which has the better wireless signal/reception?
