I hate to buy a phone, and then it doesn't work!

Your blue sim will only work in these phones if their sim restriction is unlocked. However, Cingular/ATT won't let you buy this phone unless you get a new plan through them, which renders this moot. You'd have to buy a phone from eBay or elsewhere at an unsubsidized price, and then pay for the unlocking (if even possible for these models, I haven't looked into it).

No it's not..I just added a n 8525 and a 750 for 0.00 each.

Early termination is $175.. Still cheaper then buying on eBay..

Ok, so I am about to jump on this but have a few questions. If anyone can answer them, that would be great.

1. If I already have a plan, but it's about to expire. Can I cancel that plan and just sign up again, or does Cingular/AT&T not allow that? I don't care about keeping my number since I moved recently and have been looking to change to a local number.

2. I need a family plan. I don't know about other people but when I accessed the site through my college e-mail I got a 20% off service but family plans were not selectable. Then I tried later with my company e-mail and got 22% off with family plans listed. BUT only one phone is free, the 2nd one requires full price. Is there anything around this? Can I sign up for 2 new accounts, then later merge them to 1 family plan?

The price is actually not too much of a difference. 62.38 (2 x 31.19) for 2 separate lines (450 mins each), and 56.79 for the family plan (700 mins). The issue is that my wife uses something like 10x (no exaggeration) more minutes than I do, and may go over the plan. So I would still prefer the family plan.

3. Can I cancel the data plan after activation? I'm kind of on the fence on this deal simply because I don't know how useful the data plan will me. I don't travel much and wherever I go there is almost always wireless internet nearby. I think I would tether my laptop at most once a month and don't see the much need for the data plan at all. While it might be convenient it doesn't seem to justify the extra $30+ a month.

I guess what I want is to do is cancel my old contract (once it expires), buy 2 phones on 2 separate accounts, combine them to 1 family plan, and then cancel the data package. If this can be done, then I am on board. So if someone has any info about this, please let me know. I'd thank you with a green .

How did you add 2 phones for $0 each? Did you do it on one plan, or separate?

I think he will need a new 3G SIM card in order to get 3g data to work.

My wife and I have a family plan, but I realized that I have access to this premiere website thingy. I tried to go through and upgrade my plan, etc. but I was never sure if I was adding new service or just changing my existing service. Can any one say if this works just as an extension of your current contract? I wouldn't mind resigning for 2 years if I could pick up one of these nicer phones cheap while still keeping my same plan, etc.

I bought 2 of the 8525s. Two different orders. No problem at all. Try it out.

Are you planning on keeping the lines separate, or is there a way to combine the 2 lines into one family plan?

I have verified with more than 1 rep that these CAN be moved over into a family plan once it is activated. That's my plan. Now, if I can just get it to work to let me get a second phone......

You think we can open differnt orders and merge them back to a family plan later? How long do you think we need to wait to merge it? I haven't had cingular before, so I don't know their requirements. Any help would be appricated.

Got some answers to my own question by reading a cellphone forum.

1. I can in fact start a new account, and just cancel my old one, since accounts aren't linked. All I lose is my old phone number, which doesn't bother me at all since I need a new number anyways. Some people have gone as far as getting a new line on another service (Sprint, Verizon, etc.) ported their number over, then ported it to a new account in Cingular and canceling the other service within 30 days. Seems like a ton of hassle but might be worth it to keep your number and get a $400+ phone for free.

2. Still hoping someone will answer this.

3. The data plan is an add-on, and so can be canceled with no penalty what so ever.

Also, some people have been able to call the premier CSR and have convinced them to just let them upgrade for the free price without starting a new service or anything. This is very YMMV since a lot of people have been turned down as well. I think I am going to try this first, then as a last ditch effort open a new account, since opening a new account does have the $36 fee.

Thank you so much. Guess all my worries have been answered. I am going to order 2 phones then. I don't know about getting 2 phones on one account, but I have 2 e-mail addresses that work. Maybe we can set up an e-mail sharing program of some sort. Since they don't check names or anything, just the e-mail. But then, I don't know how comfortable I would feel about someone getting my invoice...

Well.. I guess I fat fingered something earlier. I was just able to get ANOTHER one. I'll add both to my existing family plan, and then cancel my two existing lines in September after my current contract expires. So.. It should cost me about $20 a month for 3 months (total of adding lines 3 and 4 to family plan).

If this works, this deal is nice.

Woooo, I haven't thought about that. I was just going to take the 2 new lines, combine them, and cancel my current plan. But your idea sounds much better, since then I don't have to go through the hassle of having 3 accounts under my name.

Yeah, plus I am grandfathered into a better family plan than they currently offer. This way, I get to keep the benefits (and rollover minutes) from my current plan.
