If you click on the package to get the details, and then click on the "plan details" of the voice plan, you will see it says 2-year contract under "contract length".

What worries me is that clicking on the "data plan" also shows the contract length of 2-years. I am going to assume that is the contract legnth of the plan in general, and not the data portion (until I find out otherwise). The premier reps I spoke to were certain the data portion could be cancelled.

Has anyone recieved their device yet and called to move over to a family plan?

24% Service Discount This is the amount you will save on your rate plan's Monthly Service Charge. Cingular Wireless offers a variety of service discount structures. The amount of your service discount, and the charges to which it applies, are all subject to the arrangement between your company and Cingular Wireless. Under some service discount structures, this discount may also be applied to other qualified charges as well. You should contact your management or the appropriate department within your company responsible for wireless program administration with questions on the specific discount available to you. Service discount is available to you through your employer's qualified business agreement with Cingular Wireless. You must be a qualified employee or otherwise eligible to participate in your company's program in order to receive this benefit.

wow, I only get 5% discount from school

That blows...
I wonder what the arrangement is. Does the company help subsidize the discount, or is it based on company size and number of contracts a company can get for Cingular.

I get a 20% from school (decent sized) and 22% from work (a fortune 100). Do you go to a small private school?

My Fortune-200 company only gets me a 19% discount.

my company only got 15% discount.

If I order this one, and call the CSR one month later, cancel the service and will to pay $150 early termination fee, what will happen?

If I sign up for this now, am I still eligible to buy the Apple Iphone when it comes out? Would I be able to buy the Iphone and sell the 8525? Thanks.

Anyone know the above answer?

You get to keep the phone. The reason no one does this on Amazon or other cell phone deals is the rebates that gets lost after the cancellation.

If you cancel the line and pay the fee, you can get the new phone with a new customer discount.
If you keep the line, then you can pay full price for the new phone and just switch over your sim card.

Either way you can sell your phone. Question is, is the iPhone going to have a discount thats worth more than the cancellation fee to make it worth it to cancel and then start a new line.

Did anybody receive the phone and cancelled the data service without any cancellation fee?

Well, I read everything and I was trying to get one for myself. But the website is down, says "Under Construction". Though everything is fine with regular (non-premier/business) accounts. Anyone facing the same? I am already done with my contract and on month to month renewal now, was waiting for a good phone deal to jump into... Hope it works tomorrow morning!

I go to a California State University, dominguez hills to be specific, it's not the biggest cal state, but it's a good sized school, it's a public school. DH is known as a "commuter" school, meaning most of the students don't dorm, and have a career or work during the day (they try to attract full timers with decent night classes.)

when i added it to my account, it says Cal State, Individual Responsibility User, i assume that includes students.

my husband is a USC student, so i also tried to find out what USC gets, that clearly had "USC Staff & Faculty" but they get 14% off service.

edit: changed IRB(?) to "Individual Responsibility User"

Since I added my school email to my account, I haven't been able to upgrade my phone online. I had just upgraded another line earlier this week, with no problems and was able to upgrade this particular line (didn't complete the purchase, cause I'm waiting for the blackberry curve) up until I added my school email.

it now says,

We apologize for the inconvenience, but we are unable to support this request online. Please contact Customer Service at 1-800-845-9681 Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time for assistance with your request.

It had that message for two days so far. I hate having to call Cingular. I rather do everything online

edit: i just logged out of my account, and found that you can't access the personal or business "sections" from their main page. but you can log into your account to see bills, usage, etc. trying to upgrade the phone still gives the same error as the last two days.

I don't know what everyone is being told about "buying" the phone, but that just doesn't wash with the contract. The contract reads the the equipment is yours. "If" you cancel within 30 days of activation, you will need to return the equipment. If not, they have a right to charge you for it. "If" you cancel after 30 days of service, you own the equipment and you must pay a $175 early termination fee. The termination fee was invented for the sole reason of keeping customers on their plan since the equipment comes at such a discount. There is nothing above and beyond that fee noted in the contract (not that I saw anyway).

I'll have a straight answer for everyone in a couple of hours. My phone is on the FEDEX truck right now.

BTW> Those saying customer service is warning of having to buy the equipment - did you actually do this deal, or just call up and ask questions before you did?

Hi

Does anyone have any insight into

a) whether it is possible to tether with the 8525, and
b) the best data plan to use for this ?

The only data plan mentioning tethering involves 'good'

and the other options seem to be
PDA Connect, and PDA personal Max.

I went with PDA connect because it explicitly mentions browsing the internet, and PDA personal does not. But if pda personal allows tethering / internet, and has the extra messages included it seems better.

Also I found the 8525 removed from the site, untill I changed the filter to only show 3g devices, and it popped right back. -- hope that helps someone. I'm off to trawl HoFo, and if I find answers I'll report back.
