a) whether it is possible to tether with the 8525, and

It is. It will use the fastest network available

If you are going to tether, you want the unlimited plan. 10, 20 mb worth of internet a month is barely anything. And if you go over, you're gonna feel it.

cheaprulz said:
The only data plan mentioning tethering involves 'good'

and the other options seem to be
PDA Connect, and PDA personal Max.

I don't see a PDA personal. All I see are PDA Connect Add-On, PDA Connect for Good Add-On, and PDA Connect for Microsoft Direct Push Add On.

The first one comes in 10, 20, unlimited, while the other two comes in 4mb and unlimited. I would suggest going with the PDA Connect Add-On Unlimited, unless you really need the other technologies.

cheaprulz said:
I went with PDA connect because it explicitly mentions browsing the internet, and PDA personal does not. But if pda personal allows tethering / internet, and has the extra messages included it seems better.

Also I found the 8525 removed from the site, untill I changed the filter to only show 3g devices, and it popped right back. -- hope that helps someone. I'm off to trawl HoFo, and if I find answers I'll report back.

Again, I don't see the PDA personal choice. But it doesn't matter. There is only 2 things to consider about these plans. Can the plan get the PDA itself connected to the net. If it can, then the settings are there to tether the connection to a laptop. Doesn't matter how the connection is made, just needs a connection. You can in fact hook up your PDA to your laptop and use a wifi connection too. The other thing to consider is how much data you are limited to. Cingular can not block a laptop and allow the PDA, its just not how it works. So some people have been able to convince them to to allow the using of the Multimedia Max package on the phone. Which is $20 for unlimited net usage, which again can be tethered to the laptop. Cingular can not stop you once they allow the connection.

I hope that helps.

Site is back up. Rebranded to AT&T. You're previous e-mail from cingular won't work. You need to reenter your e-mail with the new AT&T site. Palm Treo 750 is now out of stock, which is concern cause I was hoping to wait a couple of months to do this. Anyone know when the deal is over?

Gentlemen, it is official..

I just moved my new line I purchased over to my existing family plan without issue or hassle. I also removed the data plan, and added back in a text message plan that I wanted. I made the lady make notes and repeat to me about 5 times that I will not be charged any cancellation, early termination, or anything else for moving the line and canceling data. I am feeling pretty good about it. The other phone arrives tomorrow and I'll do the same thing.

Good luck and Thanks OP!!!

>I just wish I didn't have to carry the dead wait from my other two lines for 3 more months (until my previous contract ends), but that cost is WELL worth getting two of these sweet phones!

You may all know you should subscribe for voice+data to get this phone (8525) for "FREE" Correct? Guess what, I just called and canceled the Data plan. I guess the CSR is new, she didn't charge me anything for terminating the dataplan. I asked her to double check with her manager/supervisor for terminating the Data plan contract. She checked with her manager and said NO FEE for removing the "DATA CONNECT" plan. I'm all set with Brand New AT&T 8525 with just $40 (before employee discount of 17%) 450 roll over minutes voice plan.

FYI, today is my 2nd day with this phone and this new service (2 yr contract).

I may have to reconfirm with another CSR about my plan in details tomorrow. you know.. just to make sure.

Good luck guys!

I was told that I had to keep the data plan for one billing cycle!!

On another note.

PDA Connect Unlimited includes Xpress Mail (whatever that is)
PDA personal Max includes 1500 messages (text or MM)

same price - both unlimited Data.

Ok, I'm in! When the Apple Iphone comes out, what I would like to do is sell this phone (probably eBay it) and buy the Apple Iphone. Does anyone see anything wrong with this? Thanks.

Is this still available? I just checked the ATT Premier site and could only get the phone for $409 with the $39 plan and unlimited data plan. Is it only availble in certain areas?

I finally was able to log into premiere and I can't see it either. I also choose shop for packages and only get 4-5 phones, of which the 8525 is not one of them.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess this is for new activations only. I was trying to upgrade my equipment.

I have a 700 min cingular family plan with 2 lines and the contract is over on both lines. I would like to get the 8525 and my univ qualifies for employee discount. From reading the forum i understand that i cannot get the phone with same plan but have to get a new plan activated. I want a plan with 3 lines now and 700 min is plenty. I just need 1 "8525" and the rest 2 can be any other flip phones. whats the best way to do?

also if i get a new AT&Tplan with 3 lines will there be activation fees on them?

do you guys have an idea how much the bill would be for a 3 line GSM 700 plan ( i dont need any other option like text mess. etc) with a 15% employee discount?

I can't help you with the "plans", but as far as this phone goes - just buy it under a new account (but under the same name), then call back and add it to your family plan when it arrives. Then you can simply drop one phone off of your existing plan, but keep the same plan in place......

Or... Call and push the button to cancel your account, go to customer service, tell them about this deal, and see if they will offer you the phone for free and a couple of flip phones for a 2-year renewal. They have been known to help out.

When I went to place my order, it said, "although you are not approved for AT&T Wireless yet..." It did not give me a confirmation. Is this common? Do they do a credit check before you get the email confirmation? Thanks.

Yes, they run your credit. Thats what they ask your social for on the personal details page. I got through and my order was shipped today. Thanks, OP. But I was looking to get Palm TX instead of 8525, never found TX either on premier website nor on regular.
