Got the confirmation email too. Thought I would wait till the shipment. But FW saved me $$$ in the past, I can't wait to share with my fellow FW-ians.

Happy Memorial Day f(w)olks!!!

dumb qustion, what logon-id and password do i use

You first must go to cingular.com/premier and enter in your work or school e-mail address to see if you're eligible.

I'm eligible for Premier, and I'm using an aging Nokia 6620 with an old ATT Wireless/Cingular Blue plan. I was thinking of taking advantage of this deal and getting a two year contract, but not sure which phone to get, either the 8525 or the Palm Treo 750. It looks like the 8525 has better specs/features but the Palm is a better form factor (not as bulky). Any thoughts?

Think twice before giving up your Blue plan. Consider buying an unlocked phone or get one and unlock it yourself.

I got 25% off service with my employee program.

So the cheapest voice plan is 29.99. Cheapest data plan is 18.74. Phone is 0.
Total monthly plan 48.73. I think it is really good.

I would like to get Sprint SERO plan, but the phones is not world phone...

I just got 8525 couple of days ago in my hand from Premier Site. So deal works for sure. Deal is on for a month or can be discontinued by Cingular (maybe due to FW effect! )

Phone is free, but tax is charged on full price..$599.99. Also choice of Treo 750 as well for free.

5 months ago, I got this phone for $500+, plus $45 monthly fee and $500 deposit. I paid $1000+ when purchasing this phone in local store...
I was crazy. Damn!

The term stupid comes to mind. You can get the same phone for less on the bay. GO into cingular and get a free phone, then just pop your sim card into the one you bought on eBay.

Life is then good.

Show me on eBay where you can get this phone for free or even close to free. You have no idea what you are talking about. Good deal OP for those that qualify. This is a $450 phone in store.

Hi Caliknbi,

Thanks for sharing. I'm going to get this phone in couple of days (excited...!)

Question: Can I cancel the data plan and keep the voice plan only for 2 yrs? Will I be charged for $175 or the cost of the phone?

thanks in advance,
hdotcom

Great find, OP, if sold on Cingular. Sprint's SERO deal (FW Deal Discussion Thread) may be a better deal over the long term. Giving you green as this is a great deal for Cingular.

Sorry, guys, didn't mean to TC, but since I'm in the red anyway... The 8525 is a great phone and this is a good deal. I just wanted to point out that the PPC 6700 on SERO costs less if planning to honor the contract. I pay less than half ($26 + $4 insurance) of the monthly price for similar national service (500 anytime, 7-7 unlimited, FIMF, 500 txt, unlimited data). I use the 6700 particularly because the wifi enables me to use Skype when I'm out of the country. Also, I can use it as a modem when there's no wifi coverage in the states. I hope that's useful information to some people trying to decide which plan/phone is right for them.

Again, if you're sold on Cingular & the 8525, this is a great find and the OP definitely deserves green.

EDIT - Not in the red anymore. Thanks for the love, guys.

If I buy this and cancel a month later, what would the cancellation fee be? If it's just $200 it's worth buying it and cancelling a month later.
I know the 8125 can be unlocked easily. Probably the same for the 8525.

You can also get the Palm Treo 750 FREE with a voice and data package on the Cingular Premier site. I just paid about $400 for one less than 6 weeks ago (it was more on the Premier site) through the regular retail store when I upgraded my plan for another 2 years so I am calling the Premier department to inquire about a price adjustment.

Here are some of the current offerings (for my company) however it appears the deals seem somewhat universal. Probably trying to sell off those Cingular badged phones.

Cingular 8525 phone rocks, also you can tweak it a lot and use it as a modem.

I would definitely go with the 8525 - better keyboard, hsdpa, faster processor, better screen resolution, better camera. While the 750 is slightly less bulky, it certainly isn't a BlackJack in terms of thickness. Both are good phones though...

I started off with the 8525... thought I HAD to have it. The folks at the Cingular store told me I wouldn't like it and would be bringing it back because they know that I am all about convenience. Well, they were right. In less than one week, I was right back in the store getting the Treo 750.

The 8525 has a beautiful screen and is larger than the Treo. However, is like carrying around a brick and you really have to concentrate (unless you're good, and I'm certain that there are those of you here who are) in getting the keyboard out with one hand and trying to type one handed. I can do all this with the Treo with no problems. Plus, the Treo is much lighter. I am certainly not trying to talk you into any direction, just expressing my observations and subsequent decision between the two phones.

Oh yeah, I just ordered myself a Blackberry Pearl (refurb) for $59 on the Premier site because I've wanted to try it for awhile. Several of my friends have them and love them. I recieved the phone the next day with free FedEx shipping. The phone appears brand new (protective stickers in place) with everything that ships with a new retail phone although it arrived in a white box. I'm having fun with this phone. I just ordered the phone only with no plan change. I switched my unlimited data plan to the Blackberry data plan and I'm off and running.

there is a workaround to enable HSDPA on the Treo's also.

I guess a better question...is there anything much better than these two phones coming out in the next 6 months or so? (Understandably probably not a free phone deal, but still) And don't say iPhone because I can't believe they made that phone without 3G capability.

Also, I had heard that you need a newer SIM card to use the 3G network, so I don't think I would be able to use my old AT&T Wireless sim and connect to the 3G/UMTS with an unlocked phone.

My Blue plan was great. I have the Olympic Gold package, 550 anytime, unlimited N+W (7pm) and M-M, 200 text, 20 MMS, and 2MB internet for $52. What was great was that my internet was not being counted since Cingular bought AT&T Wireless, so I was getting great value for my package. Well since Cingular got bought by AT&T, the glitch was fixed and now my data is being counted, and 2MB doesn't get very far, even with only EDGE speeds.

dead? added to cart and got $392.99.

still there for me....make sure you add the data plan to get the phone discount to show up in the cart

interesting...might this be because i'm attempting an upgrade vs. a completely new activation?

bloggert said: interesting...might this be because i'm attempting an upgrade vs. a completely new activation?
Sure is. I couldn't get the deal until I switched to new line of activation. Boo, that would have been a sweet upgrade...

BetterDays said: jsehlms said: The term stupid comes to mind.

I was referring the post right above mine, in which he paid 1000 for the phone.

Read everything first.

HTC Advantage X7501 - coming out this summer am not sure about the price though.

These guys are the original manufacturers of the Cingular 8525, T-M Dash, T-M Wing, etc.

And check this out HTC Shift - Latest Mobile Computer/GSM phone - 7" screen, 30GB hdd, blah blah I guess it's coming out later this fall.

HTH.

thanks, I also read about the new i-mate phones coming out (the Jasjam is the same as the 8525, not sure how the branding really works)

8150 and 9150 look real nice

Sure is. I couldn't get the deal until I switched to new line of activation. Boo, that would have been a sweet upgrade...

yeah, it does seem to be only for new activations. what's stopping me from creating a new line? I'm under no contract and they already treat me like red-headed stepchild by being a former AT&T Wireless customer.

I have a seperate family plan. I added this "new line" with this free deal. I verified with Cingular that I can switch this new phone over to that family plan once it is activated. I also plan on dropping the data plan. Once I pass my 2-yrs in September on my family plan, I'll drop off one of my old lines......

(Understandably probably not a free phone deal, but still) And don't say iPhone because I can't believe they made that phone without 3G capability.

HTC Advantage X7501 - coming out this summer am not sure about the price though.

These guys are the original manufacturers of the Cingular 8525, T-M Dash, T-M Wing, etc.

The chances that those phones are available on Cingular are slim. There are many many more phones that never see the day of light on the offerings of any US Carrier. (i.e. the entire O2 line, and the rest of the HTC family - check gsmarena) Don't hold your breath with the upcoming models. If you REALLY want those phones you'll have to pay a non-subsidized price.

That being said, you shouldn't pass up a good deal now in hopes of one of these coming out. I'm certain the iphone release is one of the reasons for the "clearance" deals on these handsets.

Is there anyway to get this phone on a family plan?

I believe Jamestren told how he was going to do this a few post above. Let us know how this goes, Jamestren.

So, we can just get the phone and then cancel the data plan without incurring any charges?

Good grief, that's almost a umpc - 5.5" x 4" does not, in my book, qualify as a "phone". The 8525 is about as large as you can get away with on your belt, and it's a good deal smaller than that.

That said, I'd be itching to get into something like my 8525, but a bit slimmer (say, in the 15-16mm range) with gps.

I am getting it for free with 1 yr service as well...but just last week did an upgrade on my family plan with free Motorola L6

Sorry for the confusion, but I was just referring to latest pda phones and definitely not hoping Cingular/TM to offer them with deals. If somebody is thinking/interested about them, like me, would go ahead and buy these retail. I know they would be expensive.

I truly appreciate this log. I purchased the AT&T 8525 for $150 via Amazon, which was a great bargain. That order was pending. I came upon this site last night and evidently beat the deadline and ordered the AT&T 8525 for free after paying the activation fee. Thanks for the great advice !

palm 750 showing free for me as well

where and how did you choose the 1 yr contract?

Will my BLUE chip work in these phones? I can see ATT wanting to phase this out as I get 750 minutes for $39.99.
I hate to buy a phone, and then it doesn't work!

thanks. i could have been getting a discount for the past 6 years. i totally forgot that my company had this. now i am getting 15% off. better late than never i guess.

For those who have got in the deal and canceled or changed features, can we compare notes on the billing for partial months? My experience: if you cancel a feature (PDA) and sign up for a similar feature right away (media max), then the monthly charges are properly prorated. But if you do an outright cancellation on any part of the account (even you add back a similar feature a few days later) or close the account entirely, you are bill to the end of the month. Is it what happened to you and is it easy to get prorated credit back by calling customer service?
