I found 2 almost identical rebates for this item, both marked as offer code 2502, so I called the 800 number on the rebate to make sure we would not get hosed and this is what I was told
- Newegg.com is an authorized HP reseller - The rebates is for $64.50, which is 50% off the national retail price. The lady told me that if I found the printer for less than that price, I would still get back $64.50 and the end prize would obviously be cheaper. - She also confirmed that no PC purchase is required for this item if the correct rebate form is used, which is the one I will post here
So $79.00 - 2% FW Cash Back (FW Cash Back) - $64.50 Rebate = $12.92 and free 3 day UPS shipping
I checked froogle and I could not find one cheaper after GCO & shipping. Getting a B&W laser for under $15 is pretty sweat. Refills can be found for around $8 as well unless you want to fork over around $50 for an official cartridge.
GOT ONE! That is a nice basic laser printer - for that price it's cheaper than toner. Heck it's getting close to bulk toner and reset chips for my Brother B/W laser!

Uhhh, the terms of this rebate look a little "fuzzy" to me and that raises the "yellow alert". Is it 50% off or $64 off? Is Newegg's sale price a "special offer" which will be excluded under the TOC?
Where did you get this rebate?

I bought this from Amazon for $85 but I wanted to buy my parents one as well but according to the HP rebate center CSR, there is a limit of 1 rebate per household (for individual purchases). I know people from FW are good enough to get away with multiple offers but I don't think I'm gonna risk it.
My cost will b ~20AR so still a good deal but the Newegg one is better My fault for not looking there, I looked everywhere else ...

Like I said, I called the 800 number on the rebate and they confirmed that the 50% off means 50% off the suggested retail price and that you will always get $64.50 back. The rebate was on the TigerDirect site.
For those new to the FW rebate game, browsing the HP site makes me wary of this deal. There is a clause on the HP site: "All offers available from HP Direct and participating resellers." Now, I have been burned in the past on FW deals where somebody pulled a rebate from one resellers site and tried to apply it to another reseller. I think there has to be some special agreement between Newegg and HP to get this rebate. This rebate may only apply to purchases from the HP direct store and selected other resellers like TigerDirect which are probably selling the printer at the retail price. Don't trust the words of a CSR for the rebate company, once the rebate forms actually come in they are just looking for a reason to deny.
