I dont think it will be $49 probably like $150 or $200, but you will still get the free software ($149). Better than the crap shoot with TD. Anyway, I just applied for another Sony Card account, I said I wanted a separate one for business. I'll keep you posted.

The deal at TD is not a crapshoot at all - they got a block of 1000 units for the $99 price. I killed the Sonycard application when I snagged one of the TD units - a much better deal.

I have the Sony PRS-500 and absolutely love it. Especially compared to older technology, the ability to read any book off of e-paper is indescribably great. I decided to purchase one for my mom for her birthday.

Anyway, I happened upon this deal through Froogle, before even seeing it being discussed here. I placed my Tiger Direct order at 1AM EST July 4th. At that time the scheduled delivery date was for Friday, July 6th. However, the TD order page still says "In Process - Your order is in process at our warehouse" and my credit card has yet to be charged. I'm still crossing my fingers that my order arrives.

I ordered right before it was pulled from sale on Tiger Direct, and it now shows that it's shipped. Thanks a lot OP.

I ordered it immediatly when I saw someone posted at $99, and hoped they didn't cancel it. Now I'm sure I will get it. It's shipped. Thanks for the cheap price TD

Mine is showing now as shipped too, with a tracking number. Awesome! My very first order from Tiger Direct, and it's going to be a great one. My mom as a voracious reader is going to absolutely love this thing.

You obviously never bought anything from TD before...good luck.

I never bought anything from TD before either. Why did you write "good luck"??? something bad???

they charged my credit card already, and shipped.

And there's a good reason for that. I have been finding deals on the Internet long before forums like this ever existed. I'm also very aware of Tiger Direct's past history. Although this one is way too good to pass up.

For one, I have every point of my purchase saved as proof. And since this is totally protected by my credit card, I don't see a single reason to worry, in the least. BTW, this deal is right up there with some of the best of them. Best of luck to you.

My two shipped as well...well, I was expecting cancellation, so I guess I'll just have to wait in anticipation now!

If you're old enough to smoke a cigarette, then you're probably old enough to read a book without color pictures.

Who wants to carry a device just to read B&W books? Look at the publications around you. They are in colors.

I think the last time I read a book that had pictures in it was when I was failing college physics. Cmon man, you don't read books? BOOKS?

If you say so. I apply for CC's all the time for the rewards. Dozens of them, and my credit score is still outstanding. I've made thousands of dollars this way. I take a *temporary* hit of a few points per application. Then the score bounces back up. But pay $50 more if you want to.

I placed one order on July 4th with TigerDirect. And it is now shipped.
My wife also placed one order. And it was canceled. The reason - they said she used same credit card as I did. Which is not true.

What do I do ?

$99 is a MUCH better deal than $50.Yes, $99 with no credit hit is absolutely a better deal. Even a few point hit is not worth $50. You get me a $50,000 line cash advance at zero percent for a year, that is worth it. I love playing the app-o-rama game, but $50 for a credit hit, that is just plain silly to do. I'd rather keep my score higher and get better rates on car loans, refi on mortgage etc etc etc.

Can someone comment on the quality of the Sony Reader for PDF files. I download tons of scientific journals off library website, so the quality of those PDF files are pretty good. I heard, however, this reader is not the best for PDF files.

The sony card does have 0% for a year, the 50k line is up to your credit score. Also if you have done this before you know the couple of points rebounds in a few months. So unless you are doing a new mortgage in the next three months there is little to lose.
