I am planning to upgrade to the 9-cell battery, but my friend said that the battery might stick out a bit, whereas the 6-cell battery won't. Can anyone confirm or contradict this? Thank you! |

I checked the Intel website to get the info on the CPU but I could not find any CPU that is Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) Only thing I could find closer to it in spec is T7100 2 MB L2 1.80 GHz 800 MHz or L7500 4 MB L2 1.60 GHz 800 MHz http://www.intel.com/products/processor/core2duo/specifications.htm Anyone can comment on this? Supposed to be Santa Rosa chip but who knows... |

Adam2004 said:Anyone buying XP is foolish in my opinion. As much as you may "dislike" Vista, the problem is not with Vista itself. To be honest, most of the complaints I have heard about Vista can be easily fixed and most of the time a user's lack of knowledge is what leads to the flaming and complaining. Do you really want your brand new computer to have a license for an out dated product? How about for the simple fact that Vista is a resource hog. You can run 1GB of memory on XP just fine, but there is a noticeable difference with Vista. Sure memory is cheap but why run a bloated buggy OS on the same configuration when XP does the job just fine. By the time XP is "Truly Dead in mainstream" I'll have a newer laptop by then with newer technological specs.

Some of us like to be on the bleeding edge (although im not sure id call Vista bleeding edge) and others are more conservative. Ive had none of the reported issues with my Lenovo laptop running vista business other than it was a little slow with Aero active and all the crapware running. Disable and uninstall a little here, tweak a little there, add 2GB for $56 and its a nice little lappy. Edit: I should note that my Lenovo has a different processor and FSB. The Vostro 1500 with a Core 2 Duo may be a pretty fast machine with just the 1GB and running Vista basic. Check out the Quick Summary on the first page of the Lenovo Thread for Vista tweaks. Please disregard the Lenovo only related items. I just ordered one (Vostro 1500) for a friend and he and i both thought Vista was the better choice for him. Thanks OP |

I am interested to know this as well. I ordered a 1400 "Smart Value" system for $649. This will replace the recent hot deal $499 HP DV9000Z which is just too big for me to comfortably use. Also, my 1400 order shows the 8400GS in the email, however the online order status shows that I am getting a "X3000" integrated card. Hopefully Dell gets this sorted out by the end of the day. |

I would have thought its a no-brainer to choose the Truelife screen option. Whats the consensus on this? Depends on if you're using it in a bright environment or not. You get glare on the screen outside or in a really bright environment. However in dimmer lit settings/dark rooms, the screen is much more vibrant. Look at any of the glossy screen laptops in a Best Buy or Circuit City and you'll see what I mean. It's all personal preference...one's not necessarily better than the other. |

If you want to watch movies than the truelife is probably better. I have work to do and hate the glossiness of this screnn. I have a 1505 and a M1210 and I hate this screen. It is alomost impossible to see outside while my Thinkpad with the anti glare screen is visible. |

I have 2 Inspiron notebooks and just recently received 2 9-cell batteries as replacements for the 6-cell on both (purchased off E-bay for about 50% of what Dell charges). The battery is flush with the bottom of the laptop....just like the 6-cell was....it's just got a little more weight to it.
So the answer to your question...no, it doesn't stick out at all. |

My recollection of early XP usage with all the barfing blue screens, incompatible apps and problems getting support for it is very, very good. It stank. I think I'd get XP and in 2 years when vista is solid enough to use, i'll want a new computer anyhow. And by then we can get a core8 quaddo with 8GB of ram, a 3TB holographic drive and a nice outlet that plugs into the 20Mx18M internal cortex jack on the back of our heads. For six bucks. |

You can find them on e-bay for $59 or thereabouts ($10 shipping), so if you keep your 6-cell and purchase the 9-cell additionally, it will cost you more ($29). |

No, actually I was saying to simply pay the $40 for the upgrade. Having 2 batteries is overkill IMO (at least for me).
The only reason I mentioned purchasing batteries in an earlier post, was to answer the question about it sticking out more. When it comes time to replace a battery....you can save money by not purchasing from Dell. |
