My mother board had to be replaced last week because the Wireless feature no longer recognized any available networks. |

Another victim of the wireless issue here Used to work fine until now. Suddenly last week, the Broadcom device disappeared from the device manager and the wireless switch on the front will stay amber whether I switch to the left(OFF) or to the right(ON) It would eventually reappear if I reboot, but it is not guaranteed Even if it is detected at boot time, it may go off anytime in the middle of a session After several hours wasted updating bios, drivers, reseating the card, moving to XP and what not, I give up as I don't think it can be fixed at my end This seems to be a widespread issue on AMD+Broadcom boards HP has even issued a warranty service enhancement here But the free repair does not cover F500s even though they are impacted (same hardware, same symptoms) So my advice to you if you notice anything funky with the wireless is to call them and get the motherboard replaced before your 1-year warranty expires |

I always run my laptop with an Antec cooler. Maybe that's what has seen me through so far. If my wireless goes I have no plan to return my beloved laptop for factory "care". It will be tough, but I'll just use a USB device for wireless. I do not, DO NOT, want some ham-fisted "tech" tearing my laptop apart at a remote location. Heck, I do not even want to put my laptop into the "caring arms" of UPS. I wish they'd offer to send the repair parts for free, but that's probably not gonna happen. So I'll just have to make do as best I can. Send the laptop to them and it could so easily be a case of one step forward, TWO steps back, depending on the tech. He fixes the wireless and breaks other stuff while talking to his buddy and not paying attention to his work. I for sure care more about my laptop than any tech they can afford to hire. FOR SURE!! Now if they had a local service depot, well, that would be a different story. Then there would be some accountability and no shipping. But as things are, they will not ever see my laptop in their shop . . . . not a chance! |

So are these 'crazy way' laptop deals still available or did the manufacturers get wise? |
