Works great with a TiVo, once you get used to the different button positions.
I've had this model for almost 2 years now and my only complaint is that it EATS batteries!

Woo hoo! Thanks OP. Missed out on this last time at the same price. I purchased the 500 series a couple of months ago and the FF/RW buttons at the bottom were the kiss of death. Sold it to someone at work for what I paid for it. This model is much better for a DVR.
(edit)... actually the other one I bought was the 659. Not 550. Duh.
we use the 30sec skip button the most. that is the only way we watch tv.
will this 676 be able to support that 30 sec FF button? anyone has any experience with dish and 676?
what are some of the cons of this remote... and lastly, for DVR functionality, which would be the best remote amongst the harmony's?
The Harmony remotes can support ANY button. First of all, it's highly unlikely that it's not in Logitech's database. That being said, even if it isn't, it can "learn" any specific button from any remote just by pointing your remote at the Harmony.
Which Harmony to buy? Comparisons, pictures etc http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-harmony/thread.cgi?4251
Essentially - they're ALL about identically capable. If you own one, don't 'upgrade' unless you're a me-too color screen desiring wannabe If this will be your first, buy whichever a. is on special b. has a button layout you like

I owned a 550, and currently have both a 676 and an 880, and liked the latter two significantly better than the 550. The buttons on the 550 just feel mushy and unresponsive and the overall layout of the 880 is just significantly better.
Just my opinion, but I'd definitely take the 676 over the 550. The 880 is nice as its rechargable and doesn't eat batteries, but the 676 is much cheaper and functions similarly.

So glad I waited to buy one of these.
Well, nobody in their right mind should pay that much for this remote when Amazon has the 880 for $136 but still a great deal for this remote thanks OP

very hot. Mine was over a $100. At this price I might get another.
Is this one better than the Harmony 550 or the 520?

I haven't been in the market for one of these in the past... I have no problem selecting video source, selecting audio source, then fiddling with my DVR/Cable remote to get what I want to get done. My wife, on the other hand ... I won't go any further
A couple of simple questions for owners of a Harmony
Can it do the following with a macro feature? 1. Turn on TV with TV Remote 2. Switch TV Source to HDMI 1 with TV Remote 3. Switch AV Receiver Source to VCR with AV Receiver Remote 4. Turn on Cable Box with Cable DVR Remote 5. And Leave control on Cable DVR
Can you program to check if a device is on, if it is then don't cycle power, etc.?
-edit- I ask this here instead of googling a bunch of information to get in on the deal before it dies. So, thanks in advance to the helpful FW'ers, this information was not readily available in the Logitech link provided above either. -edit-

Ours does this: 1. Turn on TV 2. Turn on Receiver 3. Cycle TV to S-Video 4. Change Receiver to Line 1 input analog. 5. Switch to controlling the TiVo for all functions except volume (which is on the TV.)
And when you hit "off," it turns everything off.
And it does it flawlessly every time. My wife loves it.
I've wanted this exact puppy for a while now--- it's the one that has the most convenient layout for me (button-wise.)
Was close to shelling out $80 for a refurb a few days ago--- glad I didn't pull the trigger!
Thanks OP!!!!!!!!!

It will do those features. Mine doesn't do it flawlessy everytime due to some issues with how my TV does inputs (if input isn't valid then it skips it). I could program around this which is nice. If it does fail to do something it has a help button which will can lead your wife through the settings. I got one since we had 3 remotes. It took my wife about 1 day to get used to it and I could add the features she wanted that were not programmed in by default (MyDVR button, OnDemand, etc). Dan
how good is it when it comes to controlling the DVR options (8-sec rewind, and the A/B/C function buttons on the SA-8300HD)...

looks like a great price, but i've just read the first page of reviews off Amazon and several owners have had issues with buttons dying after 1+ years of use - though most reviewers are giving it 5 stars.

Yup, I'm one of these people. All my common use buttons (mainly all the DVR ones) need to be pushed very hard to work. I bought the remote in December 2005 and the warranty is just 1 year. I read on the logitech forums that this does happen and people had success opening up the remotes and attempting to fix whatever is wrong. I tried to do the same and found this sheet (sorry I don't know the technical term!) that was between the circuit board and the rubber buttons was warped by the buttons I use a lot. I tried to re-stretch it out and put it all back together but it didn't really take. I think I can just replace this 'sheet' and I'll be in business but still ... sucks that a $100 remote (at that time) breaks after a year and a half of heavy use. I'll probably try to contact their support and see what they suggest. When it worked, 5 stars for sure.
I have this. Note that it is completely programmed by your computer. There is no other way to use it. You use the software to program it. You can assign it to do tasks. You can run the software, download at Logitech, without having the remote, when it asks to connect it, click on cancel, on the next page select test drive.
It's updated a lot. I think it has a database of at least 10,000 machines. There is a tech staffed forum for it at logitech dot com.
Only major complaint I read was that it eats batteries...munch munch... Rechargeable NIMH batteries are the answer. You can then feed your Harmony anytime it's hungry

After ordering one, I'm glad I didn't get the newer model off woot. Seems like most people are more satisified with the button placement on this model rather than the newer LCD and worse button placement of the newer model.

Anyone else still waiting? I've received 2 separate notices that the shipment was delayed, and both times I had to approve the delay to keep the order.
So estimated delivery now is nearly 2 weeks out. I don't mind waiting, but a delay this lengthy is concerning...
