The 682 is a 3 speed RWD mower with no blade clutch and a static handle system. The sens-a-speed feature and the blade clutch are easily worth the $200 price difference in my eyes. |

That was the 10682 model (cheaper), not the 10687 model in this thread. Yes, but are the added functionality of the 10687 worth ~$200 more? Absolutely not! Worth 3 times the amount, hardly. I have tried the sens-a-speed/personal pace models and for me they were worthless. Just something else to tear up. When it comes to push mowers simpler is better in my opinion. Give me a good engine with basic self propulsion and I am set. Unless you are bagging and need to stop the brake clutch you can live without as well. Of course this is all moot since the $98 mower is no longer available! |

JMrApollinax said:No, Lawnboy did away with the old 2 cycle engines when they couldn't keep up with new emission standards. All the gas mowers being discussed here are 4 cycle engines where you do not need a oil/gas mixture. These mowers have seperate places for you to add oil and gass. Thanks. I went to the LB website and looked at the comparison of the insight models. However, I could not tell if this model had electronic start. http://www.lawn-boy.com/productinfo/mowers/Insight/flash/feature.html confirmed : recoil starter |

Of course I read this thread 2 hours too late. I just returned from Home Depot where I picked up the 10685 for $299 - 10%. So with tax, it was just about what the Amazon price is. The 10685 appears to just not have the blade control system. Otherwise it is the same. The 10% came from a coupon I got in the mail. It says it is valid starting Aug 9, but it was accepted with no problems. I also got 6 months no payments. Either look pretty good. Neil |

Many mowers from Amazon are damaged in shipping. I got a Yardman from Amazon 2 yrs ago. What happens is that it wont start because the shipper will flip the mower upside down, making oil in the engine go where its not supposed to go. I dont remember what we exactly did, but we had to drain the engine oil and refill it. this goes for anything with a compressor or motor! It makes me angry every time i see an air conditioner or dehumidifier or lawn mower flipped the wrong way when the box clearly says " THIS SIDE UP! COMPRESSOR DAMAGE MAY OCCUR!" and they decide to put the box the easiest way they could throw it. And yeah, they wont let u return it, so you're really better buying from Sears or home depot. You really can't get the feel for the mower online anyway. just buy it when its on clearance or end of season. chuckster said:Mower might be fine, but apparently you get what you pay for with the free shipping. Several reviewers of other Lawn-Boys bought from Amazon said that their mower was damaged in shipping (Customer reviews of another Lawn-boy model sold by Amazon). You cannot return the mower to Amazon (Special Shipping Information: This item cannot be returned), but must deal with the manufacturer and authorized service centers.

I dont remember what we exactly did, but we had to drain the engine oil and refill it. I bought a LB from Amazon in July. They don't ship with oil, it's included with the mower but it's in a bottle. One of the things you do when you open the box is put the oil in. It was pre-measured, so you can just empty the bottle. I would certainly buy from Amazon. There is a 2-year warranty and the Toro authorized service centers have to provide warranty service or Toro will be all over them. |

Here's the same model at Northern Tool for $449.00. They have a lowest price guarantee for you hardcore folks who wanna try to get this even cheaper. 10687 Can someone explain when you would bag the clippings? How are they reused, or do you just dump them in the trash? |

Typically when I bag I have either put them into a composter or I trash them. Some areas will have a seperate "Green Waste" program as well but that will vary from county to county. I usually mulch my lawn so I do not have to deal with clippings. |

uutxs said:yzhai said:I am in the market for a mower, and know nothing about those stuff. Any inputs on this model? I dont know specifically about this brand/model. But if you dont have a very big lawn, I would recommend going with an electric one. No buying gas, no oil changing, less pollution. One downside to electric is of course the cord. I was a novice too when I bought a gas mower two years ago (from Sears) but if I were to do it again, would prefer an electric. There are some CONs about electric. If you get one with battery - it is quite expensive, you can get pretty good gas mower for the same money. And If battery dies it is expensive to replace it too. If you get one with the cord ( as I did awhile ago) then you have this inconvience with cord - it gets twisted/tangled all the time. And you don't want to use corded one when ground/grass is wet - like this year in Texas, we have a lot of rains, and I couldn't mow my yard in between the rains because ground was soaked. That was really frustrating |
