If you have one of the 1000 series filters from Target with their store $1/2 off coupons, wander off to Lowe's/HD and buy. Use the coupon match and unlike target where the coupon is linked to the item, it will be at the bottom of the receipt, and enough to pay the sales tax if you are so cursed.
Where did the rebate form originally come from (package, pad, e-mail, website, etc.)? The form says that it can't be reproduced, so if it came from somewhere that is easily identifiable (like a coupon in or on the package) and this is just a scan, the rebate could easily be denied. If it came from the web or e-mail, chances are much better.
My bet is that the car filter is considerably larger than a one-inch filter.

I think the statement is generic in nature. If it's hosted on the 3M website itself, I don't see a problem.

I never received my 3m post-it picture paper rebate of $15 from last year. There was not a phone number or email address on that rebate either. I know 3m is huge, different product lines, but no contact info is still strange.

Rather than spending $20 bucks on a car cabin air filter get this filter and cut it the same size as your car filter (can get at least 2 car filters out of 1 filter) and save some money. Did this on my car and it works fantastic.

FWIW, I have received all of the rebates I've ever sent to them.
A true FW'er never lets a rebate go uncollected, at least not without a fight, if necessary.

The wire frame isn't all that strong and regular scissors were able to cut through fine. I initially tried a utility knife which didn't work well. The edges where you cut come out a bit jagged but the filter still worked like a charm.

Good luck man I'm hoping he means the cabin air filter. Saab charges $41 for the 92x filter but I think you can cut 4 filters from one Filtrete.

Yup, I was refering to using it as a Cabin air filter. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

Are you sure car filters and HVAC filters are the same?

Actually, it's very low as compared to lower RPM's. You are trying to describe venturi vacuum, not engine vacuum. In any case, when this stuff gets sucked into the guy's engine, he's going to be hatin' life.

I can't help but think these HVAC experts are talking in terms of system efficiency and lifespan... not in terms of filtration capability. I'm willing to trade off some amount of efficiency in favor of cleaner lungs.
Even if one of the 3M filters doesn't fit your car, you can still save yourself a TON of money buy replacing your own cabin air filter rather than let the dealer or your mechanic do it (especially if you have a more expensive or non-American car). It is not hard AT ALL and there are a ton of places on the web that will sell you a replacement filter (e.g. most of the auto parts chains like Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts, Murray's, NAPA, etc.). The same thing is true for your engine air filter.

Same here. I won't use them for just those reasons.

It wasn't that long ago that cabin air wasn't filtered at all, just sucked in from the outside and then heated or cooled and fed to the cabin. Then manufacturers started putting cabin air filters in with activated charcoal and so on to reduce odors and dust inside the car and/or make their cars seem more sophisticated and/or add one more doo-dad that would require an expensive replacement part at some point. I really don't think there's any magic to what kind of filter you have in your cabin air intake duct, so if you want to make your own, I say more power to you.
