The San Leandro K-Mart has two Edgers for $30 and one electrical hedge trimmer for $15 (as of Sat).
Thanks to you for the post. My guy is having a great time learning the ways of dealhunting from me, which is a total crack-up to me. My nickname is "Jawa."

Reminder that the replacement plan is very inexpensive (it was just $4.99 for the $40 gas trimmer).

I notice many folks are picking up the gas trimmer vs the eletric. Just some food for thought. The gas trimmer will get heaving after some usage, so if you have alot of hedges, you better have some good biceps. Though gas trimmer are great to reach those hedges that are just too far away to reach with a 100' cord. I've had a eletric hedge hog for several year and it works like a champ.

The gas trimmers are a much better value and have more power than the electric ones is why I chose as I did. Otherwise I would have def bought electric (I feel more confident using electric than gas-powered tools). I play racquetball 3 nights a week so the arm strength part isn't such an issue for me (I hope).

The electrical ones are much more environmentally friendly as well.

Some cities are not permitting gas blowers, etc. from being used. They apparently put out a lot of hydrocarbons...global warming and pollution concerns. I go electric whenever I can.

Unless you live in an area that produces electricity by burning coal, in which case the cleanliness is just an illusion.

I was able to locate 5 of the gas trimmers but they are scanning at 80 bucks. I sure hope they mark them down some more sooon. Any ideas on how to price match stores outside of CA??

Silly

Just picked up an electric one for $17. (22in model) at KMart in Paramus NJ. They had a few others left too.

Also got a nice shovel with fiberglass handle for $5 and big bag of Scotts fertilizer with crabgrass control for $10 (usually about $40 at HD)

Thanks OP

RevRagnarok said:I picked up a 16" (3.5hp) electric chainsaw for $79, half of the $159 it was listed at at the Eldersburg, MD location. They had one more. They also had a handful of 14" (2.5hp) ones, I assume they would be 1/2 of $139. They also had lots of blowers (already got one so didn't look much). Otherwise, the shelves were pretty empty (and the lights off!).

If anyone spots some of the gas hedge trimmers in Carroll, Howard, or Anne Arundel counties in MD, please post!

are these good deals on Chain saws - I don't know prices on these. How are electrics compared to gas ones?
I just went to Sears web site and the 16" 3.5 one is $89 if this is the same Sears item# 07134117000 Mfr. model# 358-341170

DaveKnowsAll shows that he really KnowsLittle in regards to pollution.

Pinole KMart has not marked down the 18" electric hedge trimmer ($39.99) nor would they match the price we paid yesterday. 20" is still at $30 and they wouldn't mark it to $15 as in the other stores. grrrr... Hopefully my guy had better luck at his stores (Sonoma County) and will find the cheapie electric one for me so I can swap with him for the gas one.

Depends on what you are looking to do with them. For small branches and tree say up to 3-4" diameter, an eletric will be fine. But if you plan to cutting down a few trees like I recently did then there's no substitute for a gas power. I got a poulan from HD for about $140 and it works just fine. Though folks have question their relabilities, I don't have any problem as I'm only looking to use it to cut the few trees I have.

Look at what you plan to do with it and get the one best suited. Nothing like taking a chainsaw to a tree... LOL

Thanks - YEP not looking to do any trees - just some branches 5-7 inches. Not many. Has anyone picked either of these up at Kmart - what do you think of the prices esp the $49 one?

got an 18 inch electric bushwacker hedge trimmer for $10 in South Jersey.

Hmmm .... Wonder how many trimmers it would take to equal the emissions of one automobile.

If a store has already dropped their prices to what most people are listing in this thread, will they drop them again after awhile?

I went to the store on Buford Highway - could not find any mowers or trimers. CSR said they do not sell them there. Not much else worth mentioning.

Went to the Mableton store - no mowers or trimmers. All xmas stuff out. Did find
12' Craftsman telecoping pole prunner for $12.00, regular $50.
fiberglass handled hedge trimmers $5 / reg $20
Craftsman bypass hand prunner - $5 / reg $20
Craftsman ratcheting hand pruner $3 / reg $forgot

Lowboy asked:

Good question! Actually it is the other way around...how many automobiles does it take to equal the emissions of one trimmer?

According to Ontario's Ministry of Environment:

A lot of the equipment we use on our properties - including lawnmowers, tillers and trimmers - is gas-powered. Believe it or not, your old gas-powered weed trimmer probably causes several times more pollution than your car! That's because the engines in yard tools aren't very fuel-efficient and don't burn fuel cleanly. So running an old gas tool for an hour can create as much pollution as driving your car 500 km. Gas-powered combustion is a source of smog-causing pollutants and greenhouse gases including carbon monoxide, lead, nitrogen oxide, particulate matter and sulphur dioxide. These contaminants contribute to bad air quality and a host of related ailments. Inhaling particulate matter is the same as breathing second-hand smoke; it can contribute to an asthma attack or respiratory problems.

I just picked up a 18" Bushwacker electric for $10 in W. Reno, NV. They had one more at this location as well as one at the Sparks location but I was hoping to find the gas model so I didn't price check that one.

Thanks OP!
