russvegas said:Wow, thats early Not really. We're only 10 weeks out from BF, and people at corporate have long since decided what the majority of BF items are going to be. It won't be long before more information starts to come out as more and more people at places like graphic design firms and printer and ad stuffers start to see the final lists of BF items. |

FrugalFreak said:WRONG. oleivia was a no name brand, but it is certainly not a BAD brand. I disagree with your statement. it may not be sony, Toshiba, but some of those tv's are decent. just because something may be cheaper, doesnt make it not worthy of equalling sony or other brands in quality. nothing but pure price pretentiousness. In my extended family there is a Westinghouse TV and four Westinghouse PC monitors. Everyone who has one loves it, especially in light of value for price paid. Is Westinghouse a "name" brand? Who knows. It's not the same Westinghouse that used to make elevators and escalators and light bulbs, it's just a brand name that somebody purchased and stuck on video equipment to get people's attention. That doesn't make Westinghouse video displays better or worse than they would have been if they were called "Joe's Equipment Company." Frankly, the way TV technology is evolving, just about any TV or any monitor by any company made today is going to be an improvement over any product made 2 or 3 years ago. My 2-year-old Sony LCD TV that cost $2500 in some ways pales in comparison to a new comparable TV that wouldn't empty my wallet anywhere near as much. BTW, when do the new TV's start to hit shelves? It's in late spring, a few months after CES, isn't it? |

I can tell you are a new member just by that line. No, you can tell he's a new member by the "New Member" under his name. Same way I can tell you are a jaded prick who's posted 2,000 snide unhelpful messages just by the "2K" under your name. It was a simple question - lay off. |

I have a feeling that retailers are going to be dumping their older Sharp LCDs during BF (62U). I can't imagine they've been selling well considering the recent F&F promotion over at Sharp Direct. Their Authorized Dealer network must be really pissed off!!! Also those name brand $1000 plasmas will probably hit the $799 mark. There might be some deals on 720p LCDs but I doubt they will drop much beyond what we've seen here on FW. |

kapper/FrugalFreak/timothy86/nikedunksb/FrugalFreak said: I was replying to THIS statement below Your rather get a non-name brand tv for dirt cheap (which some people love and stand hours in line for) or you get an older model brand name tv for a highly discounted price.
But you never really get a great name brand tv (new model) cheaper on Black Friday. I find the newer tvs to be much cheaper in January. kapper said; Not sure what is really meant by no name brand - Olivia is a name right? Olivia are U.S. T.V's made by the Syntax-Brillian Corporation in Tempe, AZ. Olivia T.V.'s are quality made and if no name means cheap, then you are wrong.
they are NOW, but when they first came out they were a new brand and brand afficinados I'm sure said they were equal to coby, apex,etc.. cheap brand status. I just wanted to show just because a brand isn't one that hasn't pioneered new technology doesn't mean that they are unworthy. it's just some people think unless it is a top of the line brand, it is junk, and thats not so.jonesbeach said; Olevia came from nowhere a few years ago and is now the #2-selling brand of TV. Exactly jonesbeach! you get it |

My TV predictions: Name brand sub-$700 42" 720p flat panels (Like this years version of the Panasonic that was $999 last year). Name brand sub-$1000 42" 1080p, and 50" 720p 50" 1080p - around $1250 Watch for ridiculous prices on DLP's (sub-$500) 42" + 1080p I'm getting all excited now! I can't wait to see what TV I'm going to get this year... Last year it was the $999 Panny (great TV) |

WOW that really dates ME! I remember a lot of Westinghouse products including appliances, tvs, etc. I think it was in the 60's. But, they were a name brand back then. |

Well this thread is in the crapper already. Enough about the TV's already. We do not need 100's of pages arguing about brands and prices. Either post a BF deal, or keep it shut! |
