Are Olevia TVs really made in the USA, or is just that the company HQ is there?
According to thier latest 10-K report, "We have developed a global virtual manufacturing model that utilizes components sourced in Asia, third-party contract manufacturers located in Asia, and third-party assemblers located in close proximity to end-user consumers to produce our HDTVs."
Syntax-Brillian Corporation owns the Olevia name and bought Vivitar Corp. in 11/06. They are a is a leading designer, developer, and distributor of high-definition televisions headquartered in the U.S. Read that as: Sell chinese made TVs imported under the Olevia brand name, no designing or developing, except in marketing and ad copy writing. They are an importer and distributor, that is all, nothing more, nothing less. Ya'll may like their TVs, but I bought one 2 years ago BF and ran to return it as it was JUNK. Artifacting and pixelation were the only things they had seemed to excel at. Since then, don't even bother looking at them, no way would I want one, no matter how cheap they are sold for, I enjoy watching TV too much to be that cheap. |

I think most people who camp out on BF have no idea what they're doing -- they're just taking part in mob mentality because they see other people on the TV news lined up the night before. And it's not even worth it in some cases -- last year I got one of my $199 22" Westinghouse monitors at BB at 11:00 AM. Don't ask me why it was sitting there, but it was, and it wasn't misplaced or hidden or anything like that. I think people just assumed that because it was a red-hot deal that it must have sold out instantly when the store opened, when in fact it didn't. |

Olivia became a brand name after the famous movie "Grease" with Travolta. But I don't know about Olevia (actually first letter is German character I guess). worklamp said:Check this about the maker for Olevia TV...

While I think the Olevia actually has a pretty good picture in their 50" plasma, it is still a second tier company. Just because they are the #2 seller last quarter doesn't mean their TV's are the 2nd best in quality. They are good TV's for the price. Not awsome, but good for the amount you are putting down. Just don't let it break outside the warranty.... HDGuru |

True. We have one of there 37" LCDs that we got last year and the blacks are definitely washed out all the time. They have all the features you could want for a great price but their picture quality could use some improvement on the LCDs |

This sure started early I've seen a few Olevia Plasmas a few times, they look nice, but it just looks like it will die two days after you get it home |

I've done this for a couple of years now. I always hope for a really cold BF though. That keeps a lot of people home in bed. It was pretty warm last year. People started lining up at BB around 5:30pm the day before. I think a lot of that was all the people being used to seeing the people waiting for days for the Wii's and PS3's, plus those who missed out on cheap laptops the year before. With the plethora of cheap laptops we've seen for the last 6 months, maybe that will help keep the lines down this year. |

A lot of stores suspend their PM policy on BF. |

I got the 3rd generation 37" (model 337) last year too @ microcenter for $399 and its black beat the Hitachi 55" plasma. Yes the details (contrast ratio) is less than plasma but from playing with the 55" in Circuit City, my LCD has much better black than that! Its not wash out at all? pattycake0147 said:True. I can tell you are a new member just by that line.
TV prices are don't change great throughout the year. They are always dropping slowly but never jump around like some other products.
You rarely get a good deal on a new tv on black friday.
Your rather get a non-name brand tv for dirt cheap (which some people love and stand hours in line for) or you get an older model brand name tv for a highly discounted price.
But you never really get a great name brand tv (new model) cheaper on Black Friday. I find the newer tvs to be much cheaper in January. With that post, I'd thing you were a newb. My bud just got the 42" Sony LCD projection TV at Fry's for $500 a couple weeks ago. That was one hell of a jump. That set is now back at damn near $1000. |

onion said:BF has turn into a line of unemployed people!!!! LOL. That's so true. I haven't went to a B&M store on BF in a couple of years. Now I do all my shopping online. Around 3 or 4 o'clock, I may head out to see whats left. But for the most part, I can usually meet or beat BF prices just buy surfing FW and checking out the clearance sections at some of my fav stores. Still loving my 50" RCA DLP I got for $400 back in Oct 2004. |

Id' suggest for those of you who can't wait, is to check out the 2006 ads to get a good idea if what's likely to go on sale. I've seen some that were practically reruns of the previous year. |

Get to the store 3:00 am and hang around for a few hours and get great deals.
Its OVER
Todays BF has crazy teens lining up at 8:00PM the night BEFORE. Why do they do this? Well they dont have jobs or much money so they will do anything to get items cheap.
BF has turn into a line of unemployed people!!!! maybe they just want a great deal like a HP laptop. at the time I had not yet ever bought one. for my first one $378 was good starter for decent specs. also should all the deals go to the people with most money to burn?? no... at the time i spent alot of time on web and my legs would swell up from office chair, with laptop i could disconnect from home office room and prop up feet while working on websites or merely browsing. so there may be many various reasons why people like bf. also some of us dread the rebates!!! |
